35mm drop

I wondering, if i drop my 1.6 stilo by 35mm at the rear would i have to do the front also, or would it be level. Coz the rear of the car is quite high.

Re: 35mm drop

You should surely drop all round - I don't know of anyone on here who has done just the rears.

Re: 35mm drop

I think that would be a little bit silly as it would completely destroy the handling. What you'd end up with is a car that grips at the back pushing the front end wide which is dangerous.

Re: 35mm drop

Just dropping the rear would make it look well weird aswell, the bottom on the car wouldnt be parallel to the road and it would constantly look like your driving around under harsh acceleration!..........not a good look in my opinion

Re: 35mm drop

Thanks guys, i am kinda silly thinking to only drop the rear. But the rear of the stilo seems so high,

My stilo rides quite well and smooth, would the lowered spings make that much diference in the ride.
And wouldn't it make going over humps a pain.

Re: 35mm drop

not if you go 35mm you wont have any problems at all, the stilo has huge arches and clearance! You might have to be carefull if you go for the 50/60mm drop or the 80/90mm drop it would be a rite pain?! What make of springs are you looking at? Also lowering springs are usually lower at the back to level the car out like it sounds what you want? Like i shud imagion your 35mm springs will be 35mm rear and 30mm front!

Re: 35mm drop

I've heard by lowering simply by replacing the springs it damages/wears out the shocks by putting them under more load is this correct?

Anyone clarify before I do this next month?

The place i had mine fitted at are a very knowledgeable company and they said that the shocks on there are well up to the task.

Re: 35mm drop

I agree with Mark (sorry Koa) if you're only dropping 30mm it should be fine it's only when going lower you should change to coilovers.
BTW Pottleflump did you get the CD?

Re: 35mm drop

Yep, 30/35mm is not a problem, and the shocks are well up for the job on the 2.4 model; presume there are 2 types of shock across the range, if there are 2 different spring types.

However, it is definitely the choice mod, and the handling is increased so so much.

Re: 35mm drop

That's good to know, I think I'll check with my local Fiat/Alfa specialist that they are happy to fit the springs and get them on order for my 36000 mile service in 3 weeks.

CD hasn't arrived yet, I'll keep an eye out for it in the post. Cheers.

Re: 35mm drop

and a 5 door full in your face body kit with two tone paint and some 20inch bling bling alloys

Seriously though, like Stu says, the springs are the choice mod and the first thing any abarth owner should do.
