hi guys, i need your help or advice on this, today i done and oil change and a coolant change and now the engine managment light has come on? i'm pretty sure its something i've done so i'll run though how i done things and maybe someone can shed some light on whats going on?

done the oil and filter first, nothing unusual there - i used mobil 0w 40 and put the correct amount in (4.7 litres)

then drained the coolant out, flushed it with cold water, refilled with as best as 50/50 as i could and ran it up to temp. everything was fine for a while, did all the usual methods to bleed as much air out as i could like squezing the hoses, undoing the bleed screw and turning the heater to hot, which it start to do. i then took it around the block to get it really hot so to check for the fan to cut in. the temp rose to exactly half way (which is unusual?) and still the fan would'nt cut in then both the ASR light and engine management light came on

i switched the car off, then started it back up, and the ASR light when off, but the "check engine" warning message is still on??

has anyone had this problem before?? i'm almost certain its something to do with the coolant job i did, its not overheating despite its unusual temp reading plus if it was why does'nt the temp warning come on?

i do have a hand held diagnosic device that plugs into the car but can't seem to find any plugs?

any thoughts on this would be really helpful as i don't wanna do any damage whislts driving it?

Diagnostic connector plugs into the 16 pin connector directly above the dashboard fuse box. It's the middle one of the three connectors.

ok, i had a look and the warning light did'nt come back on and i think i know why. the diagnostic tool says the temp was at 94 degrees. the car had cooled down alot so the light just canceled it self when the temp cooled down. so ran it up again and it got to 93 and still the fan won't cut in? so i don't get it? all the pipes are hot so i can't understand why its not cutting in?

Two things. 1. The error may have gone because the fault has been corrected and it cleared itself after three starts. 2. Are you sure the fan isn't coming on? Like you I was worried mine wasn't , but I found it did come on, but was very quiet and had no effect on engine revs, which is the usual giveaway.

Out of interest, how many bleed valves did you find? I only discoverd one, near the top of the rad. Never managed to locate the one shown as being on the heater hose near the bulkhead...

Could have been a little bit of Moisture got somewhere when you did the coolant. This can have strange effects on the car. Or it hadnt made its way all the way through the system and you still have some air in there that has now moved.

only only found the one you found.... at the top on the battery side, i undone it so that water came out unless i did'nt do it enough maybe? but i must admit, i've never heard the fan before?? its always been ok? :D

it seems to be fine now, its running up to temp but i have'nt really taken it on a long journey yet so fingers crossed i may have sorted it?
