Hi i have just bought my first fiat a 2002 fiat stilo 1.9 jtd with 96000 and fsh And i LOVE this car alot already :)
I have had it serviced this morning first thing with
4 new glow plugs
oil
fuel filter
air filter
oil filter
pollon filter
And a check over by the garage ( who is a friend that i can 100% trust )

After changing the glow plugs i still get the "preheat failure" error :(
After changing the pollon filter , my fans are still virtually non exsitant.
This is also a slight cloud of black smoke sometimes when i accelerate quickly somtimes.
Bonnet atch has broken :( looks like quite a bad design.
Also got a squeaky near side rear shock
It has pparking sensors but when i put into reverse i hear a continuos beepp, then i realised i have no actuall parking sensors in the bumper :O
And last problem :D the window wipers seem to stop mid window all the time and just have to keep playing with the wiper control on steering wheel to get them going again :O

Any ideas would be great and very welcomed :)
Thanks peoples :)

Well the only thing that i thought would be a problem was the preheat failure but after reading multiple posts on here i assumed it was a glow plug and it turns out it wasnt :( the rest of the stuff is things i can get over and fix my self but update now :( asr light has just come on . im starting to feel a bit sick now and any contributions to my fix would be great. thanks

OK...
My preheat light came on a few weeks after purchase, the garage replaced all four plugs, and it cleared.
When you say the fans are weak, is that just generally? My car had no heat coming into the footwells - turned out that the directional box thing was sticky, cleared with a little nudge.
I fitted my own reversing sensors, Buy a new set off ebay,
My mpg was poor, I've used Millers Ecomax and it's really cleaned it out and improved performance.
Clean the MAP and MAF sensors.

Hi again i ran some injecter cleaner through the fuel tank today
Just had the aa out and the asr light has gone and left no fault codes.....
i had 2 fault codes one was for egr valve which im gona clean tomorow and the other was p0380-plate heating relay which i assume has some thing to do with the preheat failure on dash? i just cant seem any thing to do with this plate heating relay. any suggestions?
the aa man agreed the car sounds and feel good but thinks that cleaning the egr and looking into the plate heating relay would solve alot also got some annoying motor like sound coming from the n/s headlight ?

OH and we found a litle two pin connector unplugged which the aa man thoguh was to do with the steering it was at the front of the engine on the left about half way down.i plugged it back in

I bought my Stilo JTD a few weeks ago so sort of in the same boat as you, generally I think they are extremely underated cars and very good value for money, I got my 53 plate 3 door jtd with 98K on the clock for £1400 and apart from a few niggles, I'm over the moon with it.
The build quality is pretty damn good in my opinion, and I have owned a golf, audi A4 and Saab 93 convertible and I can't see any big difference in quality between them.

As to your niggles, the black smoke could be down to the EGR valve, have a look in the guides section to clean it.

I have the motor sound on the headlights, it is the headlight adjustment motor, the shaft has probably broken, you need to remove the bumper to remove the headlights. (you really need to do this also to change the bulbs, although there are other ways around it).

I would seriously suggest you download the fiat ecu scan software, see the link on this site. I got a cable from ebay for less than a tenner, although you need two types best to look at the forum to make sure.
The free version lets you see what's happening and clear fault codes, the pay version allows you to do a lot more.

Have fun!

Thanks for the reply m8y :) Yeh im still very positive about the car i actually really like it , as you say it feels really solid.
I will defo look into the soft ware.
Im gona clean the egr and map and maf tomorow and try to play wit hthe heater mudule conector.

Up date , cleaned the EGR to day and was sooted really badly. had a good look around and checked as many fues and relays as i could find lol and nothing seemed wrong. since i plugged the mystery sensor plug back in i have had no asr warnings com back atal. sprayed all the plugs i could find with electrical contact cleaner but still have this bloody "preheat failure"
code is p0380 - plate heating relay :O any one no what this is?
Also the thing with the heaters is weird casue i have noticed to day that although they are not blowing ur head off ^^ they warm the car with in 30 seconds, its acutally quite nice becasue u dont get the full fast hot air blowing in ur face :) (maybe i was looking tom uch into the blower thing)
on the other hand the aircon dosent seem to be cooling the car but this could just need regassing but is last of my worrys at the mo.
To do list
Sort this bloody preheat failure and get sony cd player to turn off with ignition (gona follow the guide on here)
I will get to the bottom of this plate heating relay if it kills me :p

Just been reading through the guides, no heat in the footwell could be caused by a blocked pollen filter, have a look and see what you think

changed that yeaterday m8 and blowers still the same :(
Its really the preheat failure thats doing my head in :(

Its weird with the heaters cause they do heat up the car but when you put your hand over the vents u can only just feel the air being blown out but the car does warm up o_O.
Im starting to think that the preheat failure is the glow plug relay and the reson why it hasnt affected me yet is cause we havent had any cold mornings yet, or maybe there is some sort of thermastat plate ? related to a tempreature whichs switches on the glow plug heater.... ?
Im gona test all the brand new glow plugs to morow using the multimeter and guide on here if they all pass im then gona get a new relay unit.
could a bent glow plug throw the preheat failure message? i have read something about it.

I know you have replaced the pollen filter but I think I would take it out and see what happens, just to rule it out completely, it does sound like classic pollen filter problem.
Is the air flow bad on all settings screen, foot well, and face level, is it just the driver’s side or both sides.
I blanked off my EGR car runs much better and lost the black cloud when accelerating hard.
As for the glow plug light mine ran with it on through the bad winter last year with no starting problems.

Oh i see m8 , yeh ill try and take the pollon filter out then.
Dosent the preheat warning annoy u though?

No I feel a bit lonely if the car doesn’t complain about something, I have had two JTD’s both through up warnings, it’s a Fiat it comes with the territory.
Having said that, what great cars one has done 212,000 and still going, the other 130,000 and great fun to drive.

when u get the waring after the car is started does ur coil light for the glow plugs flash for about 20 seconds? and then warning light? and then go out till the next time u start the car?

Yes, that's the normal warning, mine does it too. (mine has the preheat fault, haven't looked into it yet)
