hi all, i noticed after driving last night that there was a strange smell coming from the heaters. JTD 115
a few years back i think, i pulled the poli filter out as i wasnt getting enough air out of the heaters. and it worked brilliant ever since.

now i think there might be bits in there or something like a leafe. so how would i pull it out to clean it?

before anyone sais your stupid for doing that, well i needed more air so i done it end of that.

any quick solution, going to try a thin hover bit and stick it rite in there and leave it suck everything up.

***** where does the air come from to go into the heater????? there must be a pipe under the bonnet or something but havent seen it *****

the scuttle panel is the bit between the engine bay and the windscreen covered by a plastic trim... I doubt it will be there where the issue is as said if you removed your filter my money would be on the blockage being 'upstream' of the fan... i.e. The matrix

nothing is blocked, its just i had a funny smell so though i would give it a clean. i still have loads of air coming out.
IF there is leaves going in there, then it must have a feed from the engine bay somewhere. i would just like to know where that is.

funny smell... Like what? do you have A/C?

Please listen! IT IS NOT FED FROM THE ENGINE BAY... It is fed from the SCUTTLE PANEL

im not sure like what, its just a wierd funny smell. like a little burning smell or something like that, its hard to make out what it is.

yes i have air con but havent used it in a while. well a couple of months

no the ac is fine. i checked that and all is ok.

so how does the air get into the heater thing????? there has to be a feed from somewhere, as otherwise how will leafs get in there??

well u must be wrong. has anyone else got a opinion on this as you need air to come from somewhere.

can you explain where the leaves comes from??????

Air gets into the heater/ventilation systen through holes in the top of the scuttle panel. It can't come from the engine bay or the car would fill with fumes.

cheers for that, that is the exact pic i needed as i didnt have a clue what the scuttle panel was.
i will pull it off today to have a look inside.

and it is not a bad thing puling the poli filter out as you get a lot more air coming through.

the pollen filters are there to stop this problem as well as improove the air quality in the car, you would have found that just getting a new filter would have improoved the air flow dramatically.
the pollen filter filters out pollen, over time these little air holes will become blocked with pollen and other horrible molecules such as diesel particulates and lower the air flow, easy fix is just to remove and replace.
so imho it is a bad thing to remove as you have started to notice.
