hi guys ,i hope all are well!

well after a few months of more or less trouble free motoring in my fiat stilo abarth 2002 ive got my self a problem.

when i turn the engine off and have locked and left the car i seem to have a main engine fan which likes to turn on and stay on full speed

when i check the engine bay ive one of the red fuse blocks clicking on and off repeatedly.

ive tried swapping over the other red fuse blocks but there is no change.
i also have a humming noise from behind the middle of the engine at the back where it looks like the ecu is.

at the moment when leaving the car over night im disconnecting the battery so i dont run my battery down:bang::bang::bang:

also when the fan comes on i get a beeping noise in side the car.

ive noticed the selspeed fluid getting the odd bubble while this happens aswell

any advice guys,i need this sorting bfr monday as im away so ill be leaving the mrs the car and any probs with it is the last thing i want to leave her with, weve a 9 month old baby and shes gonna be stuck for a week.

thanks for any advice in advance.regards jay

The fan will only come on if the ECU is getting a signal from the coolant sensor telling it it's too hot, so it's either a faulty sensor or some kind of failure in the water course - whether that's a dead pump, blocked radiator, who knows... Does the Stilo have a water tenmp gauge? How is it while driving, do you ever have the fan come on whilst moving? What about in slow moving traffic or when stopped at lights? My Sei has issues with overheating when moving slowly or sitting still with the engine running, in my case it's because the fan doesn't run at all though. The beeping could the water temp warning, assuming there's no electrical/electronic fault causing it, the fan will stop spinning as soon as the temperature drops to an acceptable level so don't worry about it draining your battery.

Probably would have been better posting this in the Stilo section though, I'll ask a mod to move it.

That's a relay and something is energising the relay to make it make contact and supply power to the rad fan

It may well be a short circuit in the fuse panel circuit board especially as you are hearing beeping in the car too with everything turned off so it will need some close inspection. They often get water damage which lifts the board insulation and allows water in and corrosion takes place

For the moment, until it's fixed, you'll need to either disconnect the battery as you're doing which would be best as other things are coming on which shouldn't be
