Hello.

I have some issues about some oil over some parts of my car's engine.

Well, today i removed my throttle body to check it and clean if necessary.
But i have oil on & in it , and it seems like the oil drained down to other pipes too.

My question is: from where is leaking the oil? and why?
I attach some pictures

i think that it leaks on that "piece" attached to the throttle body, that acts the ring inside the throttle - open/closed - you can see it in picture number 1 & 3)

i have got the same problem after pulling the throttle body off given it a good clean. now i have oil over it, not a lot but it is coming out of somewhere but not sure where, think i need to put a rubber spacer on it to keep a tight seal or something.

exactly here, cleaned it, and after instaling it, the oil starts leaking. i take it off again today. i cleaned the oil spread on the pipes and all around, and hope to observe from where is leaking.

It has to come from the oil breather tube, so why don't just filter it out in the atmoshpere? If it's legal is another question, but it has to come out the exhaust anyway...

i have tried to draw the points where i observe oil leaking.

That little pipe has nothing to do with oil in any way I'm afraid to say, thats a vacuum pipe to operate the butterfly valve. I have done this job as well and when it was time to re-assemble it, I made sure to use hylamar blue (a gasket sealant) and I haven't noticed any oil leaks.

If you want to take what I did a step further, you could get some gasket paper and cut out a gasket to fit each side of the throttle body and use a gasket sealant.

well on the photo above the oil is coming out from the top of mine but also on the site and covers that thing in the picture.
it only started happening when when i pulled it all off to clean it.

so my guess is that it has to come off and put back on with a home made gasket

so, i decided to do another gaskets.
and i wonder from what material can i do ?

i wanna do gasket between throttle boddy and pipe from intercooler (a have no gasket in here, it wasn't from the start i think), another gasket between throttle body and engine(now it;s a plate gasket (alluminium i think-the original one).

yes i believe there is a gasket between the throttle body and the engine but there is not one between the throttle body and the air box pipe.

the the only thing to do is to make one as i dont think you can buy one, but i think it will be a job and a half to make one

Making new ones would not be a problem, i have a friend that works on a factory that produces airplane engines/pieces.

That's the reason why i asked about the matterial of gasket.

Now, i wonder what irregularities can cause this oil leak ? i reffer about engine working, and engine components that can be affected

Well, im not an expert in this but I would have though that it would leak air and make like a little whistle noise as it isn't a tight seal. That is my opinion but im not sure im correct, but those are the symptoms that I am getting because of this.
It is not much of a whistle noise but there is something there.

There isn't much oil coming out at all but when I give it a good clean and check it the following week it is covered again.

It doesn't affect my performance I dont think but as it has been a while, I think im just used to it.

If you could get a gasket made up I will more than prepared to pay you for one, as I really need one.

i hope to take the throttle body off those days to make new gaskets, now i'm a little busy at work.

Chris017, i will announce you, and i will send you one too.

thank you for that.
think this could be another common problem on the JTD, its just strange how cleaning a part to make the car better ends up in causing a problem. bloody fiats haha

I have same problem. I investigated it couple of days and i think that oil leaks on small shaft that connects butterfly valve inside housing and vacuum actuator outside housing. And I have no idea how to fix it.

Is there any rubber sealant between shaft of butterfly valve and housing? If there is no rubber I think there is no way to fix this problem with oil leaks.

Hey i know this is a bit of an old topic but im having a similar issue and wondered if anyone had got anywhere with this - rather than starting another topic about the same thing.

Problem with mine is it is quite a substantial oil leak - it appears to be coming from the throttle body actuator valve, similar to the OP. Im sure mine goes through a gallon of oil every 6 weeks now.... Its oily all around the throttle body actuator and on everything below it. Oil leaking onto the driveway etc... MOT coming up soon as well so id like to get this sorted... anybody any idea why so much oil?

Thanks in advance
