General Brought a 2002 Stilo JTD as a project ...

I got bored and decided to have a mess with the body computer on that Stilo project car. So I got my £4.99 soldering iron out to see if replacing the faulty chip would fix the permanent light issue. It did sort off, I'm not the best at soldering plus my soldering iron is crap so after 3 hours I'd wrecked both body computers. Just about managed to get one working enough to start the car. I've had to buy another body computer and start from scratch.

Turns out there are 4 chips all the same on the BC so I unsoldered a few to get the original board working 95%.
Should have left it to the experts, I made a bit of a mess of it.

i was refering to the two you removed (top right)...admittedly, i was v unclear

its the bottom left of the area you worked on that looks damaged.

Yeh, this board was the worst of the two.

The other isnt any where near as bad. Someone with your skills could probably save it. ;)

I'll be in touch via email, not expecting to here long mate. Same troubles as before.

So a second hand Body Computer can be used as they are easily reprogrammed using the Proxi-Alignment Proceedure in FiatECUScan.

However the Imobiliser Key Code is stored in the BC and the Engine ECU so a £90 "Fiat Dealer Only" re-coding of the key is needed unless the Engine ECU from the donor car is also used. This may not be too much of a problem if both cars are JTD's for example, but if the donor car was a 5 door 1.6 and the other was a JTD Multiwagon you have a problem and taking it to a dealer for a £90 re-coding of the key would save a lot of time and money.

I suspect a lot of the unsolveable strange dash, door and light faults etc. are probabely faulty BC's.

Today I fitted the body computer from a Stilo Abarth into another Stilo Abarth (neither of them are mine). I swapped over the key transponder (glass vial) and the key remote (or to put it another way, I changed the blade in the donor key to suit the target car). I also swapped the engine ECU and the Connect Nav+ (since it was asking for the Master Code, even after I updated it to 9.8.

I have the flashing odometer (I didn't swap the instrument panel). I tried to do a proxy alignment, but it won't stop flashing, I think because there is climate control. I gather from comments earlier in this thread that it still isn't possible to proxy-align the climate control node?

Or, will the flashing odometer only be fixed if I write a new odometer value (one kilometre higher?) since, at the moment, the body computer from the donor car must have a lower distance stored than the instrument panel.

I wonder if the easiest way out might be to swap the climate control panel from the donor car?

The target car had two keys. Donor car only has one. How can I get a second key working, particularly as the key code card is unknown for the donor car? (I have the CODE card for the target car).

In summary, it seems that replacing a body computer requires so many other parts to be swapped, it still isn't a great repair situation to be in :(

The original problem (see https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/331130-instruments-dropping-out-relay-clicking-can-errors.html) appears to be a power supply fault in the body computer - any voltage slightly above 12v (e.g. when engine is running) and the body computer cuts out and in repeatedly (flickering lights, false warnings etc). Disconnect alternator and it works Ok. Donor body computer solves this problem.

I think you can as someone fitted Climate Control to their 1.2 without issue.

Al... how many times did you try to PA? as i understand it, it may not go first time with FES/MES. When i fitted CC i had to PA 3 times before the tell tale on the dash would come on. i also seem to remember that when i fitted a replacement standard CD Headunit i had to PA twice before the mileage stopped flashing.

i seem to remember you can look at what nodes are connected and what nodes are programmed in MES. it may be on the PA section or listed seperately in MES.

il be going through it all again soon. got plans for Climate Control, sat nav and steering wheel controls in the near future.
