Re: oil sensor failure / engine disaster

The car had to be stalled as it obviously sucked oil into the turbo the result of this is the engine would rev its head off (even if you turned key off) until it explodes....& it does explode!

Rear brake cleaning is done with a cleaning solution & washed off with water via a purpose made brake machine, there is no connection here to your fault/problem.

Oil sensors are a problem & are changed often, was yours changed? should of been if you have complained of this fault before.

Good luck

Re: oil sensor failure / engine disaster

Still waiting to hear from the dealership. I spoke to the service manager the other day and said that an engine had been ordered for my car and the manager of the dealership was going 'to try his hardest' to cover that and the work under my warranty.

So really, I am none the wiser as yet.

Re: oil sensor failure / engine disaster

well at last.... collected the car tonight..., 5 weeks and 6 days since I last saw it.

It got a new engine, but that had a leaking seal and was dripping oil all over a test run, so that added a delay. Oil sensor apparently cannot be over-ridden in my model (in order that it stops displaying on dash) so I have been invited into the dealership in future when I want my oil level checked!! Think I will take them up on it, am too damn scared to do anything with oil and that car again!

Again, I was advised that the oil sensor will not feature on new models as it has been too troublesome for owners/dealerships alike. Be warned!!

Have been driving a Panda courtesy car for the duration of my Stilo's absence. felt like getting into a tank at swap over tonight! That was a bit of a radical change....

Everything done under warranty, there is a god , dealer still presuming the fault is mine, I'm still dumbfounded by everything, FIAT HQ never responded to my communication with them.

Thanks to all for advice.

Re: oil sensor failure / engine disaster

Good news with the return of your motor... Hope you thrashed the guts out of there panda; i know how garages make you feel when in icidents like these; as ive had my own run in this year with my garage; not a technical issuse but stupid employees not HPI'ing vechicles and they have a nack to making you feel like its your fault when they have screwed up but dont want to admit it..

Well the past is the past and i hope you have worry free motoring from now on! (although i suppose if you still change your car in the september fall, this would have put you off a fiat now!)

Re: oil sensor failure / engine disaster

thanks mad rabbit man (em, binki is lovely...!!)

yes of course the garage made me feel like it was still all my fault. I was given another briefing on the correct way to check oil and 'how to avoid this happening again'. I kept my cool (didn't cry this time, lol) and just quietly stared back at all comments.

we have been looking at the new Golf estates as a future alternative. seem to age gracefully and VW dealership have a very good reputation in this neck of the woods.

Re: oil sensor failure / engine disaster

oh and yes the Panda got a slight thrashing - it didn't have much gut to thrash really....! Major hurdle was actually realising when I had started the engine, practically silent compared to the normal diesel rumble I'm familiar with!!

V annoying with the Panda though was the fact that I could only centrally lock from the drivers door - no button thingy on key either so a pain in a** for taking kids to and from car, also boot only opened with key so that was a constant a** pain too. Apart from that a surprisingly nippy wee car but I'm very pleased to be back behind my own wheel and not being overtaken by everything else on the road!!
