Hi all, new to this but just wondering if anyone can help
I have a 1.2 stilo 2002 and im getting and engine light on.
checked the fault codes and showing up P0340 saying fault with
camshaft sensor. I have fitted a new sensor and cleaned all connections
but fault is still there. I also cleaned trottle body and still no good.
Any help would be great

Does the car start? The gap needs to be set about 1mm about thickness of credit card.

ya car will start, sometimes it revs up to 5000 rpm and then back to idel and is ok. its driving ok but light is staying on. Its aslo a bit slow to start maybe 4 or 5 cranks before it actually starts

Well as i said i would check the gap because if its too big then it doesnt know what position the crank is at and wont start the engine.
 
Sorry i think i might be getting confused between the cmashaft sensor and the crank sensor. Do you still get the error code for the camshaft sensor if not then i suggest you check the crank sensor and adjust the gap. I think you get access to it from one of the wheel arches its commonly upset by power washing under there.
 
  • P0340 - is Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor Circuit
So that's what you need to check- the circuit- possible open circuit / possible short circuit.

So first step, I'd find the CMP sensor related pins at the ECU and check for continuity through the CMP sensor K47 back to the ECU connector again.

K47
pin 1 12v power in
pin 2 signal
pin 3 reference earth


Note
The engine temp sensor K36 shares the same earth line as the CMP sensor, that's a possible source of problems if the the ETS has a problem too

The 12v supply for the CMP and ETS comes from a suspicious looking link on pins 17, 33 and 49 of connector A
