Stilo Oil Level

Anyone know if my 02 plate 1.6 dynamic (3 dr) Stilo has an oil level warning sensor/light???????
The oil level on the crappy springy dipstick is below the halfway mark at around a quarter of the guage level. Is this ok? or should I top up and if so, how much should I top up with.just to be sure due in May but may have one soon. Should I bother or should I last till May with this oil level.
Any advice would be great!

Thnaks

As far as I know all cars have oil level warning lights. You would be better off talking to someone like twincamms who has the same model as you about topping up. I would've thought the correct amount would be exactly half way between the 2 marks on the dipstick.

Re: Stilo Oil Level

If the orange oil light comes on it usually signifies low oil pressure, by which point its already too late 'cos your doing damage to your car. Dunno about the Stilo, but i know older cars like my mini, the oil light comes on at 4lb pressure or something like that, which means your killing your engine by the time the light comes on.

Just make sure you keep the cold oil level between half on the dipstick and full and you would have any problem.

Checked the manual, i think it says to check your oil every 4 weeks, 1000 miles or before a long trip.

Thumbs up Hello..........................

mine sits at the Max mark on the dip-stick, that's how it was returned to me after it's first service and that is how it remains, my car burns no oils whatsoever and after 6500 miles since serviced last June it is still a golden syrupy colour.

I'd say top it up to just mms below the maximum level for piece of mind.

Hope that helps.

TC.

always fill to max, dont worry too much if you overfill it will settle itself.

Eeeek!

Don't overfil as this will build-up too much pressure in the engine and can be just as harmful as running low oil levels.

As long as the car is between min and max on the dipstick it is fine. If you top-up only add small amounts at a time and let the oil settle (5 mins) between checking the engine.

The oil pressure warning light (note: not oil level), as has been said, means impending doom if it comes on. Stop immediately if it does. If this light comes on you won't find any oil at the bottom of the dip stick

Re: Stilo Oil Level

I am led to believe that there is a breather fitted, so excess pressure should not be a problem.

Re: Stilo Oil Level

Im sure a year or two ago somebody on here with a Cento had a problem because they overfilled slightly. Things like big bangs from the engine and big plooms of smoke under heavy acceleration.

Re: Stilo Oil Level

If you put too much oil in your engine you can ruin it. a breather does nothing if you've put 2 litres too much oil in the engine. Bits that shouldnt normally be submerged in oil will be and will have to drag though the oil, even if it doesn't knacker your engine quickly it will ruin the oil.

Re: Stilo Oil Level

I'll bow to greater experience, dont overfil your oil.
