Technical Stilo Clattering again

Keviwal,
thanks - that corteco website was very useful as it allowed me to check exactly the part I needed (I was tempted by a cheap pulley on ebay but worked out it was for a petrol model).
In the end I went to shop4parts as I need it yesterday.:)
(£80 for pulley & 4 bolts & next day delivery)

An update-
I fixed the clatter - it was the worn out pulley which was causing it.

Shop4Parts sent me an original FIAT parts pulley which already had the updated short bolts in the box - so despite it saying on the Shop4Parts website that you need to buy the bolts separately, you don't.

Overall a straight forward job, thanks to the good advice on this forum.:)

I am planning to change the belt going around the aircon. The belt is here, just waiting to build up enough time - Gates 5pk940. Is this the belt you are talking about in this thread? When I change it, will I have to slacken off this particular belt tensioner?

The belt is shredded lengtwise, so at the moment I have two belts on. :p Genuine Fiat part changed 1,5 years ago when I had the cambelt done. No wonder why the service intervals are 3 years.

Change it ASAP Morty.

I didn't and the auxillary belt shredded and took out the cambelt. Result - bent valves.

So be aware of what can happen!

On the 1.6 you have an entirely separate belt for the air con compressor and that alone is driven from the crank pulley.

It's a stretchy-one time fit - belt so you just cut the old one off if you want and lever the new one on whilst rotating the pullies. No tensioner to undo or retighten. Make sure you have the right belt though. Because it's totally separate you can run the car without the aircon belt but only on a 1.6 engine

Aha, that explains "5pk940". 5 ribs 940 mm long. Thought it was short to reach over everything.

So I cut the old belt, and then just use some force to get the new one over when rotating one of the pullies.

I can't do anything else than hope I got the correct belt. I was told "this is the one you need", but again, that was at the same store providing me the wrong radiator.

According to ePER, there are 2 different belts for the 1.6 A/C compressor depending on engine number.

And I was given the wrong belt... Returned it and got the correct one from FIAT this time. And that was a good idea, as it came with a special tool for getting it on and fitting instructions. I will take some pictures of it, it's a piece of metal specially made for sliding the belt on the crank pulley.

Can someone please help me with the size of the nut shown to the right here? I need to purchase the correct "cup" (metric size) to be able to pull the new belt over, turning the crank.

Shortminded as I was, I didn't measure it before I bolted everything together, driving away to buy the belt and tool.

Whoa! Why do you want to take the crank pulley off?
You will have no end of grief trying to slacken the crank pulley bolt, you'll need to lock the crankshaft up and all sorts of horrible stuff and that crank pulley bolt is so tight on a 1.6 that there will be tears

What is preventing you just feeding the aircon belt straight on?

The belt is on the outside, you just put the new belt over the crank pulley and feed it on the compressor pulley whilst turning the engine

I don't. Major mislead from my side.

When I bought the belt, it came with a small metal piece with strange claws that go in between the belt and the pulley. Fiat even provided a guide with the belt.

First, put the belt around the compressor pulley, then insert the metal claw and arrange the belt in it. Use a lazy-man's-arm or something to rotate the crank - here comes the nut size question. Then the metal claw pops out on after doing 180 degrees and belt is on. Seems very simple, with no chance of wrecking anything.

The crankshaft pulley was modified a while ago so you'll probably need much shorter bolts to fit the new one with.

Both the old and new bolts are RIBE, not Torx.
.

Sorry to bring up such an old thread but I didn't see the point in making a new one. Does anyone have to dimensions of the new bolt. From measuring the thread on the old one i'm getting M8x30?

Also, my local fiat dealership only seem to be able to get hold of the old bolts (the 56mm ones for the old crank pulley). I've always being a bit caution when getting bolts for stuff like suspension to get them from Fiat but will a local bolt supplier be alright? I can't see why not but thought I may aswell ask. If not can anyone provide the Eper part no. for the new bolts. The one my local dealer had was 60669673 but thats the long bolt.

Thanks in advance (y)
