Hi all,
I'd like to replace my current plastic steering wheel with a leather one. Is this fairly simple? How does the airbag disconnect before replacing the wheel?

Thanks in advance

edit: forgot to mention - no steering wheel controls or anything, just standard wheels with airbag.

hokey cokey - I've just bought a leather steering wheel off ebay - please tell me it's going to be as simple as removing the airbag, taking off the old steering wheel, replacing with the new one and reconnecting the airbag?

Yes.... but before doing anything with airbags, remove the ignition key, disconnect the battery and wait at least 20 minutes.

The airbag connectors are held on with locking clips as in these pictures. You need to disengage the clip before removing the connectors.

Do not allow the center ring of the clockspring (the black part in the pictures) to turn while removing the steering wheel, while it's removed or when fitting the replacement wheel.

The two parts of the clockspring can only get out of sync. with each other after the wheel has been removed. When you remove the wheel, the small black ring in the center of the clockspring should pop up and lock the two parts together. Just don't be tempted to press the ring down and "play" with the two parts. ;)

Just for info........ When supplied new, the two parts of the clockspring are locked together with a red "break-off" locking tab. You may see the small red remains of it on your clockspring.
