I'll assume the 1.6 is a hydraulic tappet based engine(which the Rover's was)? If it is i'd expect thats where the noise came from.

If your worried about the warranty situation after the 3 years, have a look at http://www.warrantydirect.co.uk
Thanks Scorg

I had a look and it looks good, about half the price of the 4th year warranty that FIAT are trying to push on me, also covers more, wear and tare parts which fail included which FIAT Don't. (Have you noticed that all parts according to FIAT are wear and tare?)

Worth it for the peace of mind i think.

Cheers - good one.

Re: 1.6 Noisy Engine

Hey Guess What,?

I get my car back today, apparently they've done a couple of good engine flushes and have started the car morning and evening for the last five days with no noises.
So all seems well and i did get the cam belts and tensioners replaced under warranty because they were found to be faulty.(JCS top class service Dept)
now to see if the noise comes back, I have instruction to go back straight away if it does. Can't grumble at that.

It sure did, 165,000 miles on the same engine, only had its head gasket done at 95,000 miles. Still on its original 4-speed gear box, although clutch was replaced at 110,000 miles.

I loved the car, only scrapped it due to flappy front wings! Sat in a lockup for 12 months and the day it went to the scrappied it started perfectly with a jump start off my mini! Same old fuel..... poor old thing dragged itself out of the lockup with its backwheels locked up! Free'd off eventually, and drove off to the scrappies...... my dad was flying off in it.... commented afterwards that it still drove like a dream!
