General Key fob not working - even with new battery

Providing you have the car's security code, FES will program the remote control part of the key, used to lock/unlock the doors and open/close the windows and skyroof, but will not program the immobiliser chip, used to enable the engine.

I don't have my car's code...

My key starts the car fine, just the remote doesn't work anymore.

nope no update yet. He hooked up some computer thing to the car and said both my keys are assigned to it or something so wasn't sure if the code was the prob.

Anyway the code I have isn't my key code so I need to get one from fiat so he can try and re-input it or something. Not sure really

Just skint at the mo to get the code so just using the key :(

Does your spare key still work remotely?

I had exactly the same problem... one minute the key was working fine, next minute nothing, even after replacing the battery.
started using my spare key and that works fine, so it can't be the sensor in the car.

I was thinking, with key insurance, it wouldn't be such a bad thing if I happened to lose the key, as I would presumably get a new one programmed to the car...

I've got key insurance. Whether they replace it like for like or just a crappy plain key is a different matter...

I know it sounds a bit daft but try putting the old battery back in the key fob and keep trying lock/unlock buttons combinations (press 2 buttons together, depress for longer etc) with a working key fob if you have one and the unrecognised one.

When a remote doesn't work then one of the first things people understandably do is change the battery but the car wasn't recognising the fob signal before and it definitely doesn't recognise the new stronger signal

The car gives a warning if the key fob battery power is getting low provided it's not stone dead

My car came with one fob and one plain key. Neither key opens the boot lock though! It seems to go half way in then gets stuck, same with both keys although the plain key goes in most of the way but won't turn. Thats why i miss my remote and the boot release button. (n)

The wafers/tumblers in the lock barrels can jam if you only use the remote control.

Every R/C locking car I've had, I've always used the key in all the locks at least once a month to keep the barrels active.

I've sprayed WD40 into the boot lock before but it had no effect. Once i really rammed the key in hard and then i couldn't get it out until after much swearing and cursing. I don't know if the locks were changed, the key fits the door (luckily) otherwise i'd have no entry to the car! I've had the stilo over 3 years now and for most of it, i only used the remote boot open. So no key action...
