Hi,

I have recently had a **alternator faliure** warning and battery light coming up on my dash then loses power steering. i have been reading alot of things on here saying it might be connections like the D4 or bad earths. i have checked everything like that and it all seems to be okay.
The car start everytime. i started the car and while it was running i disconnected the battery which then made the engine cut out. does this mean the alternator has gone?

Does anyone know where i can get a alternator for my fiat stilo 54. 1.6 active sport. and shall i go for a 2nd hand one?

Thanks

Wow! Don't do that again

Certainly sounds like an alternator power issue and your car as already spotted that but it could be something simple like a wiring prob between battery and alternator or alternator and earth. Need to electrically check it out

First thing I'd check is voltage between batt +ve and an earth anywhere on the engine with engine running = 14v plus

Hi,
I have an 04 Active Sport 1.6, suddenly the dash went dead. Only lights coming on are air bag and fsten seat belt. Power steering went off also, told it was the alternator not charging. Now replaced alternator, battery not charging fully still - reading 11.8 V on meter. Replaced battery also. and checked gauges as per previous posts. Instruments still dead but now been advised if the batterly light does not illuminate the alternator will not charge the battery from start up. How easy is this to repair / check. Does this still come back to needing to replace gauges? Any comments / ideas very welcome. Thanks.

Hi my son has had the same problem alternator failure and battery light on dash ive fitted a new alternator and battery. After a few weeks of reading about this fault and banging my head against a wall a few times:bang: i had a fresh set of eyes look at the car i went through the checks i had already done with him:worship: he sugested to take a +(positive) from the battery to the D+ Lamp connector (the smaller one) on the back of the alternator the light went out removed the wire its not been back since.:D
