Technical Clock resets sometimes, even when car is turned off?

No idea what's happening. You do realise you're only supposed to connect the extra ground cable to the ECU mounting, don't you? e.g. bolts 1 or 3 in Davren's diagram. Not to the ECU itself.

@Davren, thanks, didn't notice that, but that doesn't explain the engine not turning off?
BTW, I didn't change anything at those cables of the meter, my neighbor gave it to me, so I didn't actually check if those cables were in the right place, wich is my bad...

@Yellow Peril: I haven't even grounded the ECU, I got a bit scared from the point where my engine didn't go off

But now I'm remembering something, I slipped off a roundabout, no damage, except the thing above the wheel (don't know the english name), took a hit and went up in the bumper, I noticed that's where the ecu is, so there maybe the problem?

EDIT:
Just tried connecting bolt nr3 to the -pole, but no change. I'm afraid my battery is pretty dead now, since the indicator is black.

Yes I know. I followed one of those guides.

Tomorrow/Monday I'll try to redo the earth-connections. I read in one of those guides that the alternator gets a wrong volt measurement of the battery, and so doesn't charge it back to 100%, so maybe if I redo those earth-cons, and drive some miles, everything will be ok.

I hope...

Ok, so my battery is officially dead now... Won't start at all, I'm off getting a new one

I just replaced the battery.
The old one was 60Ah, the new one is 71Ah, it's the biggest one that I could find at this time. It starts smoothly, but my dash still doesn't do much.
Strange thing is that the only lights on my dash, that go on when turning on the contact, are the red/orange warning indicators for putting a baby on the passenger seat...
Should I still try that earth thing?

Re: Clock resets back to summer time?!

Hi there

Two questions...

when I reset the clock on my Stilo from Summer time, it shows that you have changed it on the reset display, but when all is done

and you push set it goes back to

summer time..most frustrating any ideas please?:bang:

Ok, here's an update folks.

I've layed the earth connections as stated in the guide, and on top of that I installed a new 71ah battery. The problem still persists.

How can I remove the instrument cluster, to check the back connections?

Thanks!

Thanks Davren!
I'll follow the guide tomorrow.

What voltages should I read from the connectors? I hope it's just a loose connection, let us pray! (The dash hasn't come on in days anymore, and knowing the fuel level is kinda handy... :D)

Update:

Removed the cluster, to check the connection. No corrosion or whatsoever, so I guess everything is OK with the cluster.
I'm thinking of adding a few extra earths because, even when adding those earths described in the guide, I still measure about 0.2-0.5V at so;me places :/ (For example at the front springs). But if this ain't working, I'm lost..

Main thing is concentrate on a good chassis to battery negative earth. If that's OK then it's a safe assumption the rest of the chassis is at the same potential so no need to start checking the suspension ;)

What you really need to be on the lookout for are small earthing leads which earth say the cluster to the chassis. These can sometimes corrode under the spade/screw terminal (or even just be loose).

I'm sorry but where exactly should I look for those 'terminals'?

I haven't seen much at the back of the cluster.

I'll check the D4 connector tomorrow, I'm guessing there might be a problem there.
I also read something about an EMF blast created by a dead coil, but since the dash doesn't even work when ignition is off, I guess I can whipe out that problem...

The cluster is earthed via the Body Computer, so any earthing fault could be due to poor connections there.

The BC gets it's earth from the driver's side facia earth connector (C15) which I think is to the right of the BC/fusebox or behind the driver's side footwell panel. The connector will be a bolt on black box with several black wires coming from it. It will look the same a the connector bolted to the inner wing behind the battery.

Yeah Davren, I checked that box, where all the OEM-earth connections are coming together, right? But after putting an extra earth from there to my -pole, I measure 0.00V at that spot, so I guess there ain't any problems on that spot anymore... :/
