(T) fuel consumption

i feel my fuel consumption of my 1.6 52 plate dinamic is rather high i seem to only get approx 26 mpg ,i have seen this higher but always go back down to the low 26 ,going by the trip computer is this figure still acurate if i have 17 alloys or does it not make a difference,i am low paid and i am always driving around with low fuel light on,please somebody tell me something positive

This sounds similar to what Twincamms is getting in his 1.6. No doubt he will be on later to confirm.

However, other 1.6 owners seem to get a higher mpg.....

that is low mpg, atm its getting 34mpg here, and thats limited to short runs. Have managed 40mpg on the long runs

On average I get 31mpg on local runs and 40mpg on motorway runs. I usually push the car so I am quite pleased with the consumption.

I get bad fuel consumption, but then for some reason my foot keeps sticking to the floor, i just can't help it.

Drive it like you stole it, then get a friend to steal it when you can't afford the monthly repayments 'cos you've spent all your pennies on Fuel!

You think your economy is bad.... Just worked out why my mini gets poor economy. Its 'cos it does a good impersonation of a motor from the fast and the furious, shooting foot long flames out the exhaust on the overrun!

Thats does sound low for a 1.6; i get around 30mpg (ish); but ive got a 1.8 and dont hang around that much either! I only drive it like i stole it, when some chav in his nova or corsa, etc, etc, wants a race! HEHE! But there has been threads like this before and ive also noticed TC has always sed he gets that type of return in his 1.6 n all! Dont fink there will be anything you can do about it, have u brought the car from new?! If so it might be using abit to run in it and settle down after a few miles!

I get around 22/23mpg ish - sometimes too scared to look, oh well

Problem is twinncams burries his head in the sand, he claims that all 1.6's must be like that, and many of the other 1.6 owners say they get better economy.

Take it to the garage.

If they say nothing is wrong, then its all down to your driving style, and the type of journeys your taking.

I get 30mpg +- 2mpg out of my abarth.

is it one of those 1.2 Abarths or something

Given that the combined figure quoted is about 30mpg, mine seems about right. However I will say that I used to be around 26mpg before it had its 36k service at soneacre p'boro.

I just had its 60k and still staying around 30mpg.

I get around 18mpg now, but as i said before i do drive it like it's built for. I have tried driving nice and steady but when i come off a bend onto a duel carriageway im always too tempted to boot it just so i can hear that engine.

Maybe i will try harder and see what i get then.

the book combined figure for the 5 door 1.6 is 38.2mpg.
as the stilo here is used 90% of the time for 14 mile commutes to work then another 14 miles back home its not really getting a chance to do better mpg, its stuck a bit closer to urban figures.
I guess it really is down to the type of driving being done, as with the local driving it was sitting at 32mpg, and when I took the car over to edinburgh and back it jumped upto 36mpg
