Just lately a warning massage saying "sensor fault" comes up on the display aswell as the orange triangle lighting up. It does it mostly when i first start the car but the missus has said it has done it while she has been driving it?

Any thoughts to what it it? it goes out after a few seconds aswell.

Hi guys, i used the stilo again today as i had a fair distance to travel lol and the orange triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle was dimly flickering and then sometimes lighting brightly for a few seconds then diming back down again! after a few junctions of the motorway it went out altogether and stayed off :bang:.

Any ideas where to start looking?

cheers

There's a bad connection somewhere. You should check the message that comes along with the triangle, as it states which circuit is affected.

When the triangle flickers there isnt a message, the message has only come on when the light is on constant but it only said 'sensor fault'

First thing I'd do is check if there are any fault codes stored as that will point you to the problem sensor circuit. Fault code readers are very cheap these days and will save you a fortune if you can "talk to your car"

This is one of my favorites for convenience, connecting to the car and scanning for fault codes with my phone using bluetooth. But a simple plug in OBD2 reader (easily available on Ebay) is all you'd need to read fault codes and clear them

Ok so i got the laptop and fiatecuscan and did some checks, the only fault stored in the memory was 'fuel level sensor fault'??

Also cylinder coils 1, 3 and 4 all have an approx recharge time of 1.77 - 1.78ms recharge time but coil 2 was only 1.55ms and not moving! Should i be worried?

cheers

No that's all ok. Fuel level sensor warning is common when your fuel tank is very low on fuel. Is that what's happening? You're starting up with a very low reserve of fuel? With low state battery and fuel sensor on the limit, the unusually low voltage return triggers a warning

Ignition coil recharge time isn't bad at all. It will still fire on demand, it just takes a fraction of a second longer to achieve full charge, ready to fire than the others and that won't cause you any running difficulties at all

It has been left to go quite low a few times yes, but would that cause the triangle light to flicker while driving? I cleared the fault code and havnt driven it since so ill keep a close eye on things.

much appreciated (y)

If you're in a very low fuel state then yes. Any sensor warning flickering means something is up and that could be anything that's causing a low voltage trigger like a poor state battery, poor earth, poor connection at the sensor etc

Like you're doing, see how you go, with no fault codes stored apart from low fuel sensor warning then there's not much to go on

The missus was parked in the car today and noticed the triagle flickering quite dim again but then flashed bright for a second then back dim again!

Done another check with fiatecuscan and theres no stored faults.

Right ive driven the car for a couple of weeks keeping close eye on how she runs etc, on several occasions while its been parked up on tickover its just randomly cut out! today i was taking my son to school and twice while driving it stalled and the dash lit up like a christmas tree and faults on the display saying ASR loose connection, temp too high etc then the engine light lit up.
Ive scanned it and the only fault stored was MAP sensor vaultage too high.

Any ideas?

Things that might spike things up (voltage) are the coils and they have different ways of telling they've got limited life left.

Do you have a healthy battery?

Well at idle cylinders 1,3 and 4 the voltage fluctuates around 1.7/1.8 volts but cylinder 2 sits at 1.5 and doesnt move.
The battery seems ok but will do a battery test on it when im back at work.
