Hi all,

My son's Stilo 1.2 active has been stood for about 18 months due to him living in London. I have had the car serviced and MOT'd (at non fiat garage). It has been stood for a further month until I could sort out insurance for him and my daughter.

Come to take my daughter out for the first time, I get the dreaded engine fault beeps. :bang: I took it back to the garage who got error codes U1600 and P1688 (which thanks to this board is key not recognised and loose connection?).

I have done a thorough search on these boards and have done the following :

Checked the D4 connection, checked the earth connection, replaced the key fob battery, and replaced the battery (unipart jobby)

The car runs great, good MPG, tickover really smooth and constant.

Before I have to take it to a Fiat stealer, is there anything else I should check? As an aside, the fob with the buttons works fine, but the spare will not start the car? I know for a fact that it used too

As I said, serviced. Mot. Insurance and taxed. How else would I be taking my daughter out?

Any helpful replies?

U1600
Key not recognised
I'm guessing the car battery went flat for a while? It seems that's often when the car "forgets" what its been programmed as to which key fobs id to accept and has to be told again which spare fobs id are ok. This can be done at dealers but you'll need to take log book and proof of your id as well as all keyfobs. Dealer will need to find out car code which some charge for obtaining
Or I believe you can use FiatEcuSCan to code other keys in to the car and finding out the code for yourself is already being discussed here

P1688
Is throttle 2nd idle relearning which would not be surprising if car battery went flat as it needs to relearn the extremes min and max of the throttle valve

Thanks deckchair.

Will have to take it in then.

Now to find the bl***y code card

UK owners weren't given car codes with their cars, just about every other country receive them with the purchase of the car but UK likes to be different so if you ever you needed the code (which you do for other fobs coding and other options access) then you'd normally need to ask your dealer to obtain the code for you. But have a look on the recent thread "Stilo code card"

Probably lots more if you didnt call them 'stealers', large amount of members here work or are associated with dealerships/garages.

Be prepared to fork out for a hours labour for the throttle learn (ask for throttle update aswell incase it has not been done as this wont make the bill seem quite as bad) or you could learn the throttle yourself.
