So the coilovers came for my stilo and i was happy as larry, i got them fitted today with a few little problems like stiff bolts and such but the main ones were when we lowered the car down off the ramps for the first time the shocks for the back just pushed up through the holders in the boot, we solved this by playing around with the fixings and dust covers and such and get them in right in the end and now have the car sitting nice and low BUT, the main question is, are they the right coilovers? It sais on the site that i should have 4 fully adjustable coilovers, does having uprated dampers and height adjustable spring settings count as a coilover? For example in the picture below is the rear setup of the car,

The spring with its height adjustable thingy at the top and the uprated shock, then at the front we have the full strut with coil wrapped around it. I'm confused as the whether i should have 4 struts for example.

On the AP website i went on the VW golf coilovers and it shows a picture of the dampers and springs with 2 coilovers like i recieved, but on the stilo one it shows 4 full struts. Can anyone make head nor tail of this?

I know mini meaty has these coilovers so what did he recieve and put on the car? Anyone know? Hopefully someone can help. Anyway heres some more pics....

Im getting annoyed as ive been pissed around alot today by people and i need to make sure ive been sent the right kit for my car, im not paying £500 for something which is for another car when i should have 4 full strut coiilovers for example.

Help :(

One last thing, ARCH ROLLING, where and how can i get my arches rolled to prevent rubbing on the back tyres? Theyve rubbed quite a bit at the minute and have cut into the tyres so i need the lip inside the arch folded in, any ideas anyone? Can i do it myself?

Cheers
Joel

Never gone for coilovers myself, but what you've got at the rear doesn't look like any coilover I've ever seen! A coilover is by definition a coil OVER a damper. You've just got a replacement conventional coil and seperate damper combo in my opinion.

They will be the correct ones, like the golf (and many more) the stilo uses a seperate spring/shock setup on the rear so the setup you have for the rear is the only way of doing it.
The setup on a pug 106/206/306 etc only have front coilovers and rear uprated shocks (no rear springs as its torsion bar) and they are around £400+ for a decent set.

You cant put a coil over the strut on the rear. Having no indipendant suspnsion back there is one of the Stilo's downfalls.

If you were replacing the struts and new you were going to rub why didn't you remove the spacers until you can get the arches rolled? And I would get them done properly. Also I presume you will need to seal the area you cut otherwise you will start to get bubbles and rust.

i told you they would rub, it's because of the spacers, thats why i sold you them :p

and yeah they are the correct coilovers.
you will either need your arches rolling or put some camber on the rear wheels.
i put a shhht load of camber on mine at the weekend ;)

Looks tasty that low, but can you still actually drive it around? Looks like its going to hit the ground on heavily cambered roads, and I dread what'll happen on speed hump, especially the bus proof type with the huge central lump that trails away to nothing at the wheels!

After a little bit of driving today my thoughts of what needs to be done and sorted are:

Arches Rolled ASAP. How easy is this?
Clanking noise on the left side a little bit and i think my brake pad is rubbing on the right side so im gunna jack the car up when i have time on the weekend and check everything thoroughlly, tighten all bolts and make sure everything is fixed solid and grease it up a little and make sure it's all where it should be. The left is a little higher than the right so ill need to sort that out, then monday i will take it to the garage and have the camber, tracking etc etc done.

Anything else i need to think of?

Other than that it handles like a go kart and gets some serious looks haha.

Yeh it's not to bad to drive at the minute, i did bottom out on a long corner earlier on one side but that's because i was flooring it and hit a medium sized pot hole which scared me a little, but tis ok. Speed humps are fine as long as i go slow and put my wheel in the middle of the hump for example, if i try and put them either side of the hump like i found out earlier, it doesnt work

The 'clanking' noise could be a wishbone bush on the way out. You're putting quite a strain on the suspension components with your very wide spacers. I had a wishbone bush go with just 10mm spacers and I believe you're runing 30mm!

Yes im running 30mm spacers rear and 20mm front with a rough estimate of a 60-70mm drop. I will measure on the weekend. Ill nurse the car into tommorow evening then i can spend all weekend lubing, tightening, sorting, leveling, cleaning, measureing and extra tightening ;) and then well take it from there for some proper camber tests etc etc on monday morning at the garage. And some arch rolling hopefully hah!

Hi all I found online a set of adjustable suspension with a drop of 90 mm front and back 75 mm. has anyone ever put this suspension on the car? I want to get a very very low Stilo but do not know if this suspension is ok.
