hi, just pulled onto my drive tonight and my car decided to talk to me once again and popped a new one up that i hadnt come across before. Engine system control failure....i wasnt really in the mood to start to play with it too much but the engine seemed to be running just the same as it was before the warning.
having a quick flick search through the stilo section i have found the best way to find out whats up with it is to use a code reader.
was also seeing if someone could point me in the right direction of a abarth friendly code reader??
also anyone got any bright ideas what it could be??
cheers

Don't go the cheap chinese Elm copy way as these
are clones and do not always work.

Cheap way is to go VAG
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....250615&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_2699wt_773

But that won't give you can - If you can wait a couple of months
then www.gendan.co.uk will be selling the Elm327 1.4 chips in their
kit bit dearer about £40.00 with the give away software off ebay
but at least it works and can be used on most other makes of vehicle
with the right software.

I already had the Genden Elm 327 1.3a and bought the vag cable
afterwards which is being tweaked with additional switches to
read the other modules.

Yeah I second that. Im an abarth owner and I have both cables, although I dont ever have any airbag issues to tend to stick with the ELM327 for most things.

Only problem is at the moment the Abarth ME731 ECU isnt supported so you cant read realtime stuff with it correctly as the scalings all whack. But for error codes just choose something similar off the other cars and it will read the trouble codes just fine.

Could have a cursory look at the earths to
start off with. Mines the 1.8 petrol and for a
number of weeks I was getting an engine warning
light and P0340 Camshaft sensor intermitent
I'd clear it and next day it would be back
ding of death. Finally ended up with both
crankshaft and camshaft error codes.
I cleared both 10 days ago and waiting
for them to return.

So who knows

just downloaded the program off http://www.fiatecuscan.net/Default.aspx
having a quick flick through it and found my car, 2.4 20V or do i want the fiat selespeed.
in the system box it doesn't have a engine option like on others. i have ABS, Airbag, Electrical steering, Service. will this stop me from finding out my "engine system control failure"?? is this program nice and easy to use??
cheers

Program is easy to use =
look for an alfa with the same engine / ECU
the other items on the list of options
will need the cable modifying with dip
switches to read the modules

sorry to be a real pain, could someone point me in the right direction for the alfa car i need to use to talk to my ECU to find out the fault. i didnt think think the 2.5 20V was really used in anything else.

just hunting about i found this thread...http://forum.fiatecuscan.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=545&p=1406&hilit=stilo+abarth#p1406
guessing i cant talk to my ecu to find out why it is throwing up a "engine contol system failure"??

Yani should be adding your ecu at some point
I think the 2.2 version is due soon.

If your buying the gendan elm lead then their base
software should be able to at least read the error
codes untill that point. Before you buy email
them and ask.

The engine isnt used in any alfa but the same ME731/ME31 ECU is.. But it doesnt really matter what ECU you choose so long as its the engine one as the commands for retrieving DTC codes are the same, but the stuff for realtime data, actuator test etc arent..
