massive thanks to the forum

Hi,not sure if I am threading in the right place, but I dont care!!,my mechanic yeserday said definate gearbox was a problem, initially thought it was the gearbox mount and maybe the engine mounts,so I was told yesterday from deckchair5 and pnl me that I might want to bleed the hydrolics, and today I did and I could see that there was air in the system, bleed for a few minutes and low and behold, its like a new car no clunking on gear change and performance is much greater so all in all a very good day smiles all round so once again a massive
thanks to you all at the forum

Re: massive thanks to the forum

That's great now you know it's not the gearbox and it's a clutch hydraulics problem

But.... although hydraulics can act oddly at times, air had to be getting in from somewhere. So, keep your fingers crossed that the problem doesn't come back again within a few days, I hope it doesn't, at least you'll know what it is and how to get it going again. But if it keeps doing it then it will probably need a clutch slave cylinder change.

Mine needed bleeding once and has never needed it again so weird things do happen

Hope you find out before PNL banks the cheque

Re: massive thanks to the forum

deckchair5 I am truly thankful to you and PNL,amazing how something so small can cause such problems,I will from now on try to sort stuff out myself as much as I can, and not bother with the mechanic!it was going to cost me a fortune, thank you again I would like to contribute but I dont like exchanging monies over the net, is there any other way,I like dealing with cash.

sacrableu, its back I shall bleed again and see what happens, the slave is indside the gearbox isn't it?,lasted about 1 hour is it the pipework or the slave what should I do ? change the whole thing or leave it just keep bleeding ? I think not this is going to cost around £100

Re: massive thanks to the forum

Crikey that didn't take long. OK well it's most likely to be the concentric slave cylinder causing the leak. I think you're telling us that you have the internal type slave cylinder, cars vary you see.You can get them from shop4parts (obtain a discount if you donate to this forum) but it's a big job being an internal slave cylinder so labour charges will hurt the pocket quite a bit

Re: massive thanks to the forum

It will only get worse and you'll end up with no clutch control and not being able to drive it. Are you able to see the hyd fluid level dropping?

Re: massive thanks to the forum

Not sure if this is any help but had air in the slave on my Schui 2.4 55.

I lost no fliud
Round town was ok but on run air got in with in 20 min.

Had the gearbox removed and slave removed . I checked it with a very sensitive pressure machine used for testing brake parts. Found the smallest of leaks in seal. When removed and gatter pulled back there was very little clutch fliud in there.

However mine was due to clutch plate as one of the springs was missing 7 instead of 8 how is still a mystery as no parts in housing .

Cost of slave was £110 fiat . labour 250 8 hrs work , clutch fiat £210 plus vat

Re: massive thanks to the forum

deckchair5 no fluid leaks at all must be in the slave,so I will bleed again for longer and top up the fluid as I go along, and then change the slave asap.

Oh bugger there goes my weekend in Blackpool..

Yep sound as though the concentric is well and truly fubard.. will hold pressure temporarily and then your back to square one when it looses pressure..its one that most of us will shy away from [if their sane ] not one would take on myself even..when fitting the concentric you need to know what your doing..

Deckair5 mentioned about discount at Shop4parts, you dont always get a discount from them, if they have to order Fiat parts you dont get it.
