Technical EGR Blanking on JTD

Interesting, thank you!
I'm not as car savvy though as you so I probably won't risk it... And if I ever want to seriously tune the engine I'll probably just replace the whole manifold as suggest on other forums...

Got my EGR deleted and the car does take longer to heat up, also my throttle body looked like the exhaust manifold from an old maestro van :( it was rotten and now my "misfire" has gone since cleaning it. :D

The EGr gasses are cooled before they go into the engine, so if blocked of, less heat go's into the water, hence can take longer to heat up. A small problem compared to the problem it causes to the engine and the oil, with all that soot going back into the engine. Shadeymans link is way out of date.

However your morals lye on EGR valves I just slapped a blanking plate on 03 plate 1.9 JTD Doblo. Read that it was doddle of a job. Codswallop. Couldn't get at under side of valve to blank off exhaust gas inlet. 6mm allen key & 13mm spanner to get at the valve but awkward to get at over n/s/r top of engine. So, I took easy option & blanked off flexi pipe at inlet manifold. Will see what long term reprocussions of my fitment present but on the bright side the engine idles smoother, better acceleration & no more bills to clean sticking valve.
£3 for EBay plate. Afraid to say to all "Yoghurt Knitters" i'm more than happy.

Hi, I've just bought a 2005 JTD Multipla. Reading up has all the signs of a blocked EGR (poor acceleration below 2000rpm, judder when switched off, black soot out the exhaust) I'm going to clean the EGR, but if it doesn't solve the issue I will just blank it off. Seen two blanking plates, one with holes, one without. Which one would I need?

When I had a Multipla I just blanked the corrugated pipe end of the EGR without cleaning and had no problems and I have done exactly the same with the Stilo, again with absolutely no problems.

My EGR is deactivated (by a tuner/magician :D ).

Today I checked the value of EGR opened in % and it displays 3,998% in FES. It doesn't change if you rev the engine.

My question is this: could this reading be correct and the EGR is in fact 3,998% open, because of the soot build up before it was deactivated - hence, cleaning it would result in 0% open reading or is this value irrelevant now?

Hi 4% on mes looks like the min mine was the same.
You can scan maf airflow to confirm its totally shut as youd be looking at around 485mg/i +/- 20 or so. If your down in low 400s or less its passing or you have a leak after maf before turbo.
Fit a blank to be sure if i was you, i removed completely and blanked forever but if you leave solenoid unplugged it will probably throw up a code 400 or 401 something like that, i got around it with a resistor to simulate solenoid.
Have a look at my alfa thread i have pics and resistor values on there(if you wanna go that far)

Thank you man, 485mg/i is the exact value I get!

Another thing, if you have any idea what could I check - when the intake manifold was getting sorted out, obviously something happened. THe car is showing "Throttle valve control p0638" error. The only symptom is that the car shudders when you turn it off, because the intake manifold valve doesn't close. The mechanic will take a look at it, but not before next week and I don't like what the shuddering is doing to the flywheel so I would like to sort it out myself if possible.

I checked if all the vacuum hoses are connected and I can't find anything wrong. Any tips? :)

is there vac at the end of the pipe ? might be pinched somewhere with the work done.
I have a vid of flap and actuator showing spring return strength is this bit ok

finaly any chance the remap written has deactivated this flap by mistake instead of swirl flaps ?

Fortunately only a electrical connector was disconnected at the back of the engine. Small one, easy to miss. Found i this today, everything works now, no errors.

Thank you! :)

Did you try with the industrial hot air blower?

Looks a bit like a hair dryer, only the output air is way hotter. I don't know if it has a special name in English.

Anyway, the answer is usually heat :)
