Hey guys,
a new one for you, had a look around and couldn't see anything that matched my symptoms on here. I have a 1.9Jtd 115 MW, When setting off more times than not now if I drop the clutch in normally it takes around 10 seconds for it to get above about 10mph unless I rev it to over 3000rpm before dropping the clutch and even then sometimes it just dies when I drop the clutch in, it usually only happens in 1st gear and once I'm above about 20mph it seems ok but last night it really struggled in any gear and I was having to rev it like hell to get any kind of normal speed out of it. No warning lights are showing or errors coming up other than the usual Pre-heat fault that has always come on.
I'm thinking this is an engine management issue but as I'm not familiar with diesels I'm not really sure where to start?

Cheers, Ant

Possible EGR problem, check this link to my Thread, I know mine is a GPS but the principle is the same :-

Other possibilities are MAF (MAP?) or the Throttle Position Sensor.

Ah interesting, sounds very much like my symptoms, sounds worth looking into cleaning/replacing the egr. As I'm new to diesels what exactly is an egr valve?

Cheers, Ant

An EGR (exhaust gas recycling) is an electro-mechanical valve which is fitted to the exhaust system as a feedback device which recycles a portion of exhaust gasses at idle / low revs back into the inlet side of the motor, to save the planet allegedly... the soot from the combustion process eventually clogs it up, you will have seen my pics!

Once clogged up you experience the things your car is doing, as well as possibly others, depending on the level of clogging. Some have blanked them off, I chose to have it replaced as there is differing opinions on wether or not blanking them off can ultimately damage the turbo, or cause an MoT failure due to incorrect emmissions.

I still love my diesel ooomph though! (y)

Almost certainly stuck open EGR (easily proven by temporally blocking it - several threads on how to do this so just do a Search)

I'd sort your preheat problem too as that could lead to starting problems (especially if it gets cold again)

Cheers guys, very much appreciated, I will look into it and let you know the results!

Well got round to getting it off today, wasn't surprised to find that the inlet pipe to the egr was completely clogged up to the point where you couldn't actually see into pipe, plenty of soot in the egr, gave that a good clean. Acceleration seems much smoother and mpg was much better over a 70 mile journey even with 2 hours of traffic on the M62 today! Havn't had a cold start yet which was when it was worst before I cleaned it, but fingers crossed it should have solved the problem.
Cheers for the help guys,
Ant
