Dear All Stilo-ers,

My Car: Fiat Stilo 1.6 16V Active Sport 3Door

My center rear seat belt mechanism doesn't let the seatbelt come out. There is a little bit of play to and throw but nothing like it should be (No one can use it basically). I have never actually used it but i knew it worked 4months ago, and now it has failed my M.O.T.
Can anyone help advise on how i could possibly fix it without being costly, but also making it safe enough to use?
Umm also... What kind of cost would i be looking at to have a new seatbelt mechanism supplied and installed by a garage??
:worship:
Thanks!

Check the backrest of the seat is locked in place; if it isn't, the seatbelt won't come out. On mine you have to slam it a few times for it to lock in properly.

I'm not sure that you have to have a center rear seatbelt for the UK MOT test.

Found this on one of the many MOT related sites but don't know if it's up to date.

B. Vehicles with more than 2 rear seats; Either

i. A 3 point inertia reel belt on an outboard seat and a 3 point static or inertia reel belt, lap belt, disabled person's belt or child restraint for at least one other seat; or

ii. A static 3 point belt for one seat and a disabled person's belt or child restraint for at least one other seat; or

iii. A 3 point belt, lap belt, disabled person's belt or child restraint for each seat

Maybe if the center belt isn't there, they don't have to test it. ;)

Dave.

This has happened to me on many occasions in the previous Marea and the present MW. All I do is get a 17mm spanner (in the Marea) or an Allen Key and undo the big bolt under the seat squab holding the belts lower anchor point. Once that is out it gives just enough play to feed the belt backwards to release the mechanism . I then retighten the bolt and all is working. Done in 5 minutes.

YESSSSS!?!?!?!!!!! It turned out to be the rear seats not being clicked in propperly! Somehow there was some dirt on the small red indicator that shows if its clicked in or not... i would have thought the MOT people could have known this before!
Thank god its all sorted now, Thanks 4 all your replies.... i knew i could call on the fiat people 4 this lol :D:D:D:D:D:D
