Agreed, I've a silly little NetBoot just for FES. It's great, less bulky than a laptop but still with all the same functionality.

Got an old HP OmniBook XE3(Windows XP) that I use solely for remapping.

Got a Samsung R530(Windows 7 Ultimate) that I use for most things car related, FiatECUScan, ePER, eLearn, Fiat and Alfa forums etc..

Got a 2.4ghz Quad Core MacBook Pro(OS X Lion) that the missus and I both use for business, university, banking etc..

Thanks shades lots of tips.(I did actually write your proper name but the iPad seems to prefer correcting it to shades)

I dropped my old laptop & only the half the screen works, so it's now plugged into an old monitor & has become a desktop. I still use it for mobile work & trying to connect up to my car by resizing an app to only use half the screen.

I am hoping this is just a breaking in period for the iPad & suddenly everything will click into place .

So I think I will buy this one then if there aren't any other issues?

The modification of the EML interface allows it be used with the coloured FES adapters that are available on eBay.
Useful to have so I recommend you purchase those too eventually.

Well after a year of owning my car, I finally sorted out the remote central locking. As I received 1 key with no remote when I bought it.

So the choice was go to a fiat dealer
1 - New remote key £200 + £20 key code total £220

Or the DIY forum favourite option!

2 - 2nd hand Ebay remote key £10
Swap my immobiliser & blade into ebay key
Buy FES (£40 at the moment as the euro is quite weak!)
Buy modifed ELM cable £24

Get key code from fiat dealer £20
Total = £94

Option 2 is still expensive but I now have a lot of kit which I am sure will come
handy again soon.

So whats the difference between these 2 cables for using FES,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-ALFA...750230?clk_rvr_id=351252651088#ht_5936wt_1346

Or

And whats this about different coloured leads as well??????????????

Thanks

The two cables you have linked to are different, ones a VAG and the other an ELM. They're able to connect to different ECU's and the coloured cables for use with FES are to allow you to connect to even more ECU's easily ..

so i would still need these different colour cables as well as a lead then, I thought you could get a switchable cable for these.

Hi not sure if this is the right place to be asking this but i'm getting the error: "operation time out" when I run the test in settings. the exact message is below.
I have searched the fiat ecu forum and followed the steps I could find to resolve this situation however non have. I'm using this cable http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180885494157?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 which is a vag com kkl.

So far i have followed the how to use guide step by step and changed the driver from the one windows automatically installed to the ftdi driver. I've also tried trying all the different port speeds. I've also tried two different cables on two different laptops still with the same message. I'm running windows 7 64 bit if that's any help

I can however connect to the engine ECU with my ElM cable. The full error code is below I was just wondering do I have to do anything different or change any settings for this to be used on a stilo.

Thanks in advance

Hi There

I am considering buyng the full version of ECEScan.

My Key Fob is not working and I am waiting for mey key code from a Fiat dealer. So, I am told that if you have ECUscan registered version you able to reprogramm the key codes on the Fiat Stilo.

Can someone please advise me on whether this can be done and whether here is a step by step instruction on how you do it.

yep it is possible i've recently done mine using the same method. takes a bit of fiddling to get the laptop to talk to your car but once your set up programming the key is quite straight forward only thing i found hard was locating where the key programming section was on the software you'd expect it to be called security or keys or something but i think it was in some thing called body computer.

if you can find some one local with the software and cables it'll be a lot easier but it is handy to have the equipment yourself i've used mine quite a lot for the keys and other fault finding.(y)

I second what yampug says...I used full FES to set up my second remote after getting code from dealer ..there are certain options that need the electronic code of car..I only had one key was worried about car locking itself in winter when clearing snow from windows..very easy to set up remote just follow instructions in the software..
I would say that if I was you I would download the free version first and when you have the cable you are going to use try and connect with that first as yampug said already you have to set your laptop up with the correct driver for your cable..but depending on which cable you go for you may get driver for cable with it...I went the ELM cable route which at first did not work but some handy posts on the FES site and was able to modify it so now use ELM for engine/steering/ABS and then a use a VAG cable for Airbag ecu...as you would of read there are now specific colour cables about and specific other makers..I went the cheap route and a little soldering..but have to say is great software as hope to keep car a while

I have a problem connecting the software with my Stilo and I described my problems on the developers forum, but with no success. I would be really grateful if anyone could help me (I'll just quote myself):

I am also experiencing some weird problems with ELM327 1.5 interface.

When I run the test in settings menu everything comes back OK, but when i actually try to connect to the ECU I get "timed out" error. I tried different port speeds and it's always the same - all OK in test, but cannot establish a connection to the ECU.
When I tried Torque (android app) it also connects to the adapter, but cannot establish a connection to the ECU. The car in question is a '07 Fiat Stilo 1.9 Multijet (150hp); it seems as that the car doesn't let the connection to happen.

I've plugged the ELM tool in another car and it worked perfectly. Still doesn't work on the stilo though; all tests OK, but "operation timed out" when trying to connect to the ECU Tried all USB ports on my laptop (different COM ports in FES) but nothing helps.

It is a bluetooth ELM237 1.4 if that makes any difference.

Received an email from Yani today.

FiatECUScan has been renamed.

Its now called Multiecuscan and here's a link to the new website:
