Styling Change hazard light button into ipod dock

Very cool!

But 3 years after your original post!

How secure is the ipod while driving?

Yeahh it was a long time coming, i actually gave up on the idea because i couldn't figure out a decent way to do it, but then i was looking at it one day day and the idea of molding a dock into it came to mind :) and it is really secure, the ipod doesn't move around one bit, the dock itself is really solid because it's actually screwed to the plastic where the hazard button lay, and then fiber glassed, so i't not moving anywhere :)

I was wondering what you meant by "coinholder", but after I saw the location I realized that my car has the mirror controls in that spot.

Furthermore I am wondering how secure this fitment is in case of a collision. You don't want such items flying around.

But looks really nice though!

And i have been searching for agesssss for the mirror controls there to put in mine! but anyways, and as i said, the dock is screwed and fiber glassed to the original vents, and the vents are screwed back in as normal, so in a collision it would be the same as the hazard button being there (y)

Here is the post again for those who couldn't see the images on the previous page

Rightttttt, so i finally set off on my mission to actually change the hazard button into a ipod dock, i completed it about a month ago but haven't had chance to post the pictures yet, but here they are

First i started with cutting a whole for the ipod dock

Then i placed the dock in the whole to make sure it would fit then i secured it in with some screws

Then i started filling in the gaps with fiberglass and making the general shape of the dock

Then i started to sand down the fiberglass, then applied a 2nd layer, then more sanding

Then i masked the dock for spraying

Then... I had to find a place for the new hazard light button, so i went and removed that pointless coin holder and set out to work on making that the button holder...

I filled the gaps with fiberglass

Then i cut a hole for the hazard button to fit in

Here are the final results of the dock and the button, i sprayed the dock with matt black paint and wrapped the button holder in carbon fiber wrap...

The dock charges from a cigarette lighter i wired in by the fuses in that little cupboard thing, this one i've made will fit ipods and iphone 3's but not 4's, so i'm gonna make a new one but using the official apple dock with the remote which will fit the 4's, but as i don't actually own an iphone ( the 3g is my partners ) so it doesn't make much difference to me, but i do like the idea of having a remote :p hope you like my work :D

Thanks for all the positive feedback, gonna get abit more creative and make some more gadgets :) already made a splitter out of a cupra splitter for my merkur bumper, i cut the curves off the side, cut the middle section in half, shaped to sides to fit with the shape of the bumper, then molded a middle section, then wrapped it

Made my speaker pods

And custom rear lights

Sorry to go abit off topic, but i'm trying to make my stilo as original as possible, and just wanted to share what i've done so far :)
