I'm currently in Constanta Romania and have very limited and slow internet access. Because of this, it's difficult for me to trawl through previous posts with the search function.

I went down a large pot hole in the road with the MultiWagon and ever since the "Stop Engine Airbag Warning" light has been on.

I suspect it's going to be a connection problem but any suggestions where to look would be appreciated.

Dave.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, my first thought was the OCS too.

I think there was a wiring diagram of the OCS with test resistances on the forum somewhere but I can't find it. Can someone point me in the right direction or post a copy of it here for me. I don't have access eLEARN here.

Also, since I went down the pot hole there's been a rattle from the passenger front door, anyone know if there's anything airbag related in there?

Dave.

It's much more likely to be a connector if it suddenly happened after a jolt. I get to and clean with contact cleaner each one first. (Do one at a time though so you can find out which is the culprit)

There are others but i'd go for those easier ones first

With the OCS, resistance won't tell you, look on the dash for first clues of it functioning correctly.
Is it flashing ie working on start up then goes off?
Does it flash if you move in the passenger seat?
Good

Is it randomly flashing? Not good

Nothing in the door airbag related

Thanks for the pics Decks. Cleaned everything I can find with contact cleaner but still the same.

The red airbag warning light comes on with the ignition then goes off for 1 second during the "Checking" process then stays on permanently no matter what connectors I wiggle about. Any further suggestions?

Any idea how detailed the result would be from Examiner if I can find a Fiat dealer here? Would it indicate the exact part where the fault was or would it still need further investigation?

It is very accurate. Doesn't say which connector though, but tells what airbag (or OCS mat) has the fault. Then you can trace your way through the connectors.

The green Bosch machine also communicates with the Stilo CAN / airbag system. I've diagnosed, cleared and fixed airbag issues with the Bosch Examiner.

You might have had an intermittent (difficult word) fault for quite some time, then the OCS (or whatever) got smashed and you have two airbag faults. These add up and the red light stays on forever - even if one of the faults are cured. :bang:

The examiner will tell where to look.

Didn't work for me. Had to manually reset it via Examiner. I have heard that many have cured it with 3 restarts...

You can shut off the message with the "menu" button beside the steering wheel, after each message pop-up. Just press "menu" and it will shut off.

The OCS told me after initial startup, then after one minute or so. Then I could clear it until next start. The red symbol stays on after you have cleared the message though.

Still got it? Examiner or similar would identify where the problem is.

Airbag system is self testing so warning light should go off immediately it's fixed.

There's connectors for the seat side airbags but that's a seat out job

airbag ecu.jpg
The airbag ecu connector itself in the centre console or even the steering column airbag coilspring

It's a guessing game once you've gone for the easy ones and it can be quicker to bite the bullet and have a diagnostic done to point you in the right direction

Is it correct that the warning light should go out after starting the engine 3 times once the fault has been fixed? or does it need to be turned off with Examiner?

Dave.

When I had issues due to a loose/wet D4 connector the three restarts cleared the warning light from the dash. I read the airbag ecu and it still had the DTC's stored so cleared it. Never had an issue since.

Thanks for all the info on this guys. I've got it fixed now.

I found a Fiat dealer just outside Constanta that had an Examiner but nobody knew how to use it and they wouldn't let me play with it. No idea how they diagnose problems.

I'm back from Romania now and tried a friend's Snap-On tester, it showed "Airbag ECU power supply failure" and "Left hand passenger seat squib". We deleted the power supply failure, which didn't return, and the problem turned out to be the connector under the passenger seat, just as suggested above.

Strange thing was, I opened and cleaned all accessible connecters with switch cleaner whilst I was still in Romania but the warning light stayed on. Did the passenger seat airbag connector again yesterday and it's cured.

I also noticed that all the connector pins are gold plated, so shouldn't really have given a problem.

Dave.

Maybe it was like my issues. Two faults jam up in a combo error that stays on and ding-ding-dings forever until the fault is cleared with a computer. (Post #9).

But what gadged did you plug in? Nothing I've heard of except the Examiner itself and Bosch can read and clear airbag fault codes???

M.

It was a Snap-On Solus diagnostic scanner.

As I posted at #15, it originaly it showed Airbag ECU power supply failure" and "Left hand passenger seat squib". When we tried to delete these faults, the ECU fault was deleted permanently but the seat squib fault remained.

After I'd cleaned the connector under the passenger seat, the "Stop Engine Airbag Failure" warning message and the red airbag warning light disappeared by itself. I didn't need to turn it off with any computer.

fiat stilo 1.2 ,16 v

about 2~3 weeks ago my red air bag came o for no reason, at the time there was a bit of snow around . i booketit into a auto electrition although the fault dissapeared befor i took it and he said bring it in when it comes back on as it may be ok. a week ago i turned a corner and it started again and beeped all day, the next day it came up in the morning the seamed to go on and off and now seam to be on more than off.
i took it in and he done a test and it came up with ~
02 controle power super
14 drivers side airbag squib
he reset it and the 02 went but the 14 code stayed and the light stayed on, i have booket it in and he said it is probabily the frount harnes so i asked to get a price and the first price came up as £1000 but he said thats wrong and he got it wrong it not that much, he charged me £30 to read the code that took ten minues but not told me he done frount harnes on a ford and it cost £90 for the part and about the same labor .

any advice would be great

Teddy
