2nd hand key job should work.

Replay electronics from 2nd hand one onto your key, or your keys blade and immobiliser chip into 2nd hand key.

Can pick them up for about £10 each on ebay.

Has your car currently got one remote flip key and 1 remote none flip key?

If so, get 2 second hand remote keys, transfer blade and immobiliser chip from your current keys into the two 2nd hand remote ones and get them to programme them both at the same time. Should be same price for recoding, but you've then got 2 remote keys (y)

Yeah you've lost the plot. I'm not saying I'd get a second hand fob and assume it worked, I'm saying transfer over my imobilisor (the little glass tube inside the key), and the blade (i.e. the ignition key part of the key unit) and then take the newly assembled key to a garage and ask them to code it to the car. ;)

But I won't be doing jack until someone on this site says if they've done it, and if it worked.

i thought i had lost the plot, cheers for the reasurance! i was right with the sticker, it says keycode security with serial numbers & the key code but that would count for nothing of my fob is kaput. i know a dude in arnold clarks parts department, i think il pick his brain. another thing iv got something rolling about behind my dash or scuttle panel area, it started just before the fob broke, im wondering if its got something to do with the receiver. 1 day il investigate & il remove the cd player to see if i can get access, il try anything before spending £££.
on eper there are breakdowns of locks & keys & fuses/relays on fuse box at the battery which say remote control, im wondering could it be that simple.

Thats the plan, but i'm happy to have just 1 work remote key.... i'm the only one whom drives the car.

From what i've seen there isn't many on ebay, and they seem to be about £20 mark, which is fine.... it's £200 cheaper than Arnold clar charge lol.

But has anyone actually done this, taken the imobilisor chip (glass tube) and the blade from a broken remote and fitted them into a second hand one then had a Fiat garage re-code it?

I think so. Bear in mind that the same key is used (maybe different colours) in the Stilo, mk3 Panda and a few other Fiat models (y)

i like your thinking Most Easterly Pandas. would the key code that i have for my keys be used for the second hand keys or would i need new codes for them?

As far as I'm aware, the 'key code' is just for the imobilier chip, for programming when new, so if you transfered the chip (a little glass capsule thing so I'm led to believe) into the 2nd hand keys then they should work fine and it'd just be the remote programming that you'd need doing for the central locking (y)

that makes sense, when it says keycode security im thinking key, they should say imobiliser chip code, nutters! :)

Isn't that keycode security card you have for the stereo? Is it a 4 digit number? ;)

So calling all Stilo owners, has anyone had a second hand key recoded to activate your central locking?

the salesman said it was for the keys, he could have been wrong. it is a four digit code, but there is serial numbers on it & dates. it could be for the standard radio :chin: but i changed that for cd player & iv never needed the code.

I feel the need to bump this long dead post. I again ask the question..... has anyone had a second hand key re-coded for their car?

Only asking because now the Stilo is staying for another year..... with a nipper here now it would be handy to not have to run into the road to unlock the car lol

On an update. I went to a wee locksmiths that was recommended via a colleage. They checked my key and confirmed its putting out a signal, but because the Stilo key is encrypted they can't re-code it. They put me in touch with a man that can, if he gets the Fiat code for my car.

So off I go to Arnold Clark, but not the Kirkcaldy branch, he confirmed they are not as clued up as the near by Dunfermline branch. So i'll give them a buzz and report back my findings.

Minus cost of a new key, now that I know its working should mean repair cost is far cheaper.

hi just wondering if someone can help my i've got a 53 plate stilo jtd 80, and when i got the car i only got one standard key, no remote fob, just wondering if all stilos remote control central locking, been trying to read up about it on elearn, from that i noticed i don't have a remote sensor on the dash in the middle of the windscreen vent, and also where my front courtesy light is i have a bit for putting glasses or something rather than the unit for the alarm etc, so does that mean i haven't got remote central locking?

Should be able to I believe :)

I don't think so - you will need a precoded transponder first to put in your "working" key before your body computer will accept it - to make a precoded transponder a specialist will have to read the eeprom file of your bodycomputer and use this file to precode a new blank transponder.
After putting this coded transponder in your new key you will be able to program the new key to your car with FES or Examiner.

There is no remote sensor, its radio controlled, not infra red (y)

All UK Stilo's came with RCL according to the sales booklets :)

We're on about Remote Central Locking though, not enabling the immobiliser :)

Firstly, nice to see another Fifer on Fiatform. :)

You could buy a new key and have it coded to your car, but your looking at £200+.

I'm trying to get on of my keys recoded as its forgot it's remote code, I've spoken to a guy in Cowdenbeath. I can Pass on details of his firm if you like, he might be able to help, he even does work for Dunfermline Arnold Clark, key coding etc.

yes, but the question was if a second hand remote could be programmed - i assume the user also wants to start the car with the same remote??
In that case a second hand remote key won't work without a precoded transponder....

True, it won't start the car, but the question was more towards the remote side of things, just means that you'll still need the origional key to start the car, but can open / close via remote then :)
