ESP/ASR Disappearing Fault

Hey Peeps

Mum's Stilo this time . . . drivers door doesn't operate with the central locking system. If you use the remote, all other 3 doors operate as usual. Using the key on the drivers door does unlock/lock it but also activates the central locking.]

Thoughts? Thinking solenoid . . .

Anyone got any experience taking the inner door frame out; do you have to remove the glass or can it just rest once it's down??

Thanks

Re: Drivers Door Central Locking Fault

Well since the Active Matrix has gone kaboom I'm not too sure; basically when driving along (did it on the motorway) it goes "beep beep beep" twice, ESP light remains lit on the dash and on the button by the gearstick.

Any ideas T? (for want of your real name :p)

Steering/yaw/pressure/abs/speed sensors, brake pedal switch etc etc....take your pick;)

Re: Drivers Door Central Locking Fault

Yeah, I expect the warranty will cover it; its just strange that it should come on during driving; experience tells me that ASR/ESP faults usually occur at startup.

Oh, as for the matrix, it lasted a month before literally going bang; I think it's the backlight. Am in wars with FIAT over a warranty claim, shall update as to when I know what the outcome is.

Check "Three Parts Dead"

Read through that Phil; mum's hasn't got the issue of dead electrics on the door; the window, mirrors etc work ok, and when you lock the door with the key, all other 3 lock except the drivers door.

Fiddling with it yesterday, I noticed that if you catch the door on the striker but don't fully close it, it allowed the car to lock (should have tried to lock then unlocked again) - am thinking maybe striker mechanism gone?

Re: Drivers Door Central Locking Fault

Ian, gonna need your services :D

No fault code was stored in the brake node or engine node, even though the light has come on once on the motorway for 3 hours, once after skidding on my auntie's gravel drive (might have caused some stonechips on my w@nker uncle's X5 :D) and then again after skidding on my drive accidentally - the light comes on, stays on (2 sets of beepx3's), but goes off if you restart.

Strange that there's no fault codes

Re: Central Locking & ESP/Traction Control Fault

System works in conjunction with ASR but if your only getting ESP fault then look towards steering/yaw or pressure sensors. Not forgetting of course the relevent wiring/connections to/from these sensors.
ESP light should come on for few seconds when required/tight cornering but not for 3 hours! ASR can be switched off but for safety ESP cannot.

Re: Central Locking & ESP/Traction Control Fault

Yeah, the mechanic was trying to make out that I was just saying "oh, check my car because it came on", once I chatted to him he realised what I meant; most likely a translation issue from the desk :p

If it comes on again I might drive straight over and leave it there with it on s they can test it with the light on.

Re: Central Locking & ESP/Traction Control Fault

Right, it came on again this morning, so I drive it over to the garage. Their DET, who apparently is the only person who can look at it, is over their other site doing MOT's!! So I come back home, irritated, turn the engine off and the fault has now disappeared.

The light on the ASR button is staying lit I've noticed too.

I don't understand why no fault is being recorded, I thought the Stilo's new CAN & Node system got rid of the "if it's still faulty after 3 minutes it'll be recorded" malarky we had with the Bravo/a?!

EDIT: Just put the fault symptoms through eLEARN, and it says replace Brake Node, at a cost of over £1000

Look on the bright side - it's intermittent so it's most likely a wiring fault. I've got a similar problem with my sunroof at the moment (only problem I've had so far :p ).

I gather you're NOT getting ABS failure?

I would do a scancheck & info on can network tests if there is no errors, what modules were checked just the ecu & body computer?

No I haven't heard of that either; he said there were no fault codes in the Brake Node, and also checked the Engine Node. :(

Hang on scancheck thats a PC thing aint it:rolleyes: cant remember but its scan.....something,basically checks for errors in all modules at once.No it is scancheck.........sorry heat getting to me!
What do you mean by brake node....the abs unit?

Re: ESP/ASR Disappearing Fault

Hi, had a stilo jtd for a couple of weeks now. Just getting used to 'blackpool illuminations' on the dash.

When braking reasonably hard, but not skidding we get the ASR light come on, quickly followed by the ESP light. The ESP light stays on until the car is switched off. When turning back on all is OK until the brakes are used a bit more harshly than normal.
I'm guessing but would this be a problem with a sensor on one of the front wheels? Or is their some other common part?

Very occasionally get a 'brake light failure' as well but I'm guessing thats just a gremlin as the brake lights are always ok.
Also the airbag malarky, I have already decided its the seat sensor as it usually only comes on when someone is sat in it and moves about.

While I'm here, thanks for this forum and all the folks putting their suggestions forward. I have fixed quite a few probs through searching thru these pages.:)

Re: ESP/ASR Disappearing Fault

Ok it's back; but seems to come on each time I drive now

One possible thought is brake light switch but I've noticed it's come on the last three times I've been doing a 4 point turn to get out of my drive, so possibly steering angle/yaw sensor??

But why does it disappear each time? What with this and the other Stilo's power steering fault doing the same, I'm gonna cry

Re: ESP/ASR Disappearing Fault

Took it to dealers today who said it has a Brake Light Switch fault on the Body Computer; new one on order :D
