I need to take the steering wheel and airbag off my 2003 Stilo Jtd Multiwagon to replace the 11 steering wheel buttons.

Reading the procedure in eLEARN, it says disconnect the battery then;

"This operation must NOT be carried out fully if a VDC system is fitted, apart from disconnection of the clock spring junction electrical connector"

A searched of eLEARN and the forum showed several references to VDC but I couldn't find any explianation of what it was.

So.... as it says in the title, What is VDC & How do I know if I've got it?

Dave.

all stilos came with esp, ebd, abs etc but the only one you can turn off is the asr and thats the button next to the city button on the left of the gear lever(y)

You can tell my raised red spots and a rash;)

VDC works in conjunction with Yaw sensor however there is a good chance you will induce a error (C1013 or something) which required the VDC sensor to be recallibrated.

VDC cannot be switched off.

Operates by applying brake(s) to prevent over/understeering etc.

Should be on your elearn CD...if you look in right place;)

The search function in eLEARN returned several references to VDC in the brake and steering sections but nothing informative. I can't think why it would be affected by taking the steering wheel and airbag off though.

I'm not sure if the clock spring needs to come off to replace the buttons but if it does, I think it only needs the locking pin fitted to stop it turning whilst removed and then it would be replaced in the same relative position.

Is the yaw sensor part of the steering column or hidden away somewhere else?

Red spots and rash?

Dave.
