Re: 1.9 jtd - egr valve replacement

if its a loss of power (and smoke) thing like a lot of people on here have reported, have you considered blocking it first before replacing it? Info can be found here;

Post #4 may be of interest to you (found using search tool)

Thanks.

I've heard too that you can blank them off and just get a remap on the ecu.

Alot of people do this to their vectra's and other vaux's for more power, so don't see why it can't be beneficial to a fiat.

He's not after more power because the car hasnt got enough power. His car is losing power due to an issue it has.

Yeah but if you can blank them off, to avoid paying for a whole new one, then you win two ways, you get a remap for fuel efficiency etc, and whilst it is blanked off the extra power.

The EGR valve does not affect the power of the engine. (unless it is full of soot and stuck in the open position). It is closed when you put your foot down. It improves economy and emissions at low speeds and light acceleration.

The best solution is to have it working correctly.

Usually just taking it out and cleaning it is sufficient to get it working again.

John55 has already answered that in post #7

If you want worse fuel economy and higher emissions then block the EGR (which would therefore be illegal).

The main reason for blocking it is purely to prove if it's faulty - and is not a solution in it's own right - but it does save fitting a new part that's not needed

That's the idea

Don't forget there's also a modified gasket you can fit as well.

Sure.

Fit blocking gasket

If problem has gone then strip down EGR (or buy another as very last resort) and fit the special gasket when refitting it.

If problem is still there then refit special gasket when removing the blocking gasket.

You sure it's nothing to do with the VGT (overboost valve) - you normally get an error code if it is.
