Over Christmas my stilo 1.6active would not start, i called out the RAC who told me my battary needed replacing so i let them replace the battary for the cost of £80, since then i have drove the car a few times for quite long periods of time. However i went to start the car this morning and nothing happened, not even a hint of any action apart from the dash board lights, radio and heating coming on as normal. there is no sound from the engine at all.

i'm not the most clued up person when it comes to cars so i would be gratefull for any advice.

cheers

Dead alternator maybe?

Or is it possible you left something switched on overnight? Could just be the cold weather too.

Bad earths are a bigger problem on Stilos than duff batteries.

My battery is well over 6 years old and yet started my JTD instantly this morning (-3.5) without any mention of an error or beep.

Get the RAC out again as Dave suggests - they've given you duff advice :(

Lucky you.
I seem to have the ABS/ ASR/ ESP failure coming back due to the cold. Just when I need ABS on the icy roads and traction control to get me up the ungritted hill from my house, I have neither.
- Only in a Stilo.

That does seem odd (and you with a new battery too).

Surely the errors go on a restart though ?

I did pick up the 'loose connection' (but only on a very cold first time start) message a few days before driving to Paris but this I'm sure was down to constant short journeys over a period of a month or more leaving the battery a bit depleted.

My ASR system has been quite active these last few weeks - generating a distinctive whine from the P7's as they struggle for grip.
