3 years on and still a cracking car...

OK I know after a good couple of years checking the threads here that its seems pretty much hit and miss if the Stilo is plagued with problems or not - more the later by the sounds of it.......But I've just given the wifes 3 door 1.8 (Abarth-ised skirts/spoiler/Claws) a good buffing and it still looks a damn fine car and we've had very little issues with it!
Am I the only one?! OK only covered about 25K in that time - the only probs we've really had were not the cars fault:
1.Hail storm damage to roof panel/bonnet - insurance sorted
2.Wife caught the rear wing reversing - insurance sorted

Only really problem was when the battery expired (after 5 years so not unreasonable) and the ECU went a bit crazy - though after a reload caused the idle to fail I eventually cured with the inlet control valve clean featured on this forum! Bit of grease sorted the sticky gearstick but thats it!

I've only ever had Italians as I love car design and they always make the best designs/styling.....the 3door Stilo with the right wheels still looks damn fresh to me and I have had many passing positive comments......
The 1.8 is OK in performance too (for the wife) and even returns reasonable economy. Just need lower springs to improve looks and handling and I reckon it'll stay in the stable for a few more years yet. I think they are a real bargain especially with todays prices

It'll fall to pieces tomorrow

Tbh, I've heard so many negative things about the stilo that even I'd be wary of buying one, and I even owned a renault once!

That said, there probably isnt a lot wrong with the majority.

its good to see some nice posts about the stilo, especially after all the hammering it has taken from people.

i've driven many many cars, and still the stilo is the best of them

Re: 3 years on and still a cracking car...

Hello,
Ive had mine nearly 3 years and the only trouble I've had with it was the thing that makes the air go to the windscreen or floor stopped working (fixed under warranty) ,the switch that makes the car go from auto to manual having a funny turn in May (not sure what happened but hasnt done it since), and the high level brake light breaking (fixed during annual service for £25).
Ive had Renaults, Rovers, Vauxhalls, Fords and a VW and so far this car has been by far the most reliable one Ive had (touch wood).
How ever due to some of the horror stories on here I do pay for the extra warranty!!!!!!
So heres to a few more years oftrouble free motoring!.........fingers crossed! lol
