Re: First Car?

I wish my first car would have been a JTD. Great economy, low on tax/insurance and looks good. Remapped it's superb. I recently sold mine and regret it daily.

Re: First Car?

No offense but it's pretty powerful for a first car, unless you've been driving other peoples for a while, I'd say get something with less power for 6 months or so minimum, unless you're going for the 80BHP one.

I'm not saying you can't handle it, but everyone I know who bought a car with a fair bit of power behind them for their first has had a crash of somesort.

My first car was a mk5 fiesta zetec s. Similar power to my 1.6 dynamic now. Its not all about the power, its the way you drive it. I drove my fiesta like a pratt thats why i crashed it and it left me in such a state that i'll never be as stupid again.

The stilo is a great first car, get it, admire it and then drive it with pleasure.

Re: First Car?

Sometimes a bit of power can get you out of trouble and it makes for safer overtaking. As long as you remain sensible (supposing you are a new driver) then there's no reason not to go for it.

Re: First Car?

First car I drove and indeed learned to drive in was a Mk 2 5dr 1.0 Uno with 45hp. Not the fastest thing on earth and had a steering wheel off a bus, but did almost everything in and with that car. It kinda died slowly because of it. Worse still, it was my Dad's and it gets worse...he replaced it with a K-reg Orion, which I then crashed

At least by the time I got my own car, I'd got (most of) the boy racer stuff out my system. Mind you, it was only a Mk2 1.2 8v 3dr Punto. Happy I've got the Stilo now though, far more comfortable.

In terms of first car being a JTD, it could be interesting certainly. Cheap for economy and tax, plus the grunt a diesel has behind it. Decent combination I think

Re: First Car?

thanks alot everyone, much appreciated.

another quick question, is there much difference between the handling of the 3 door/5 door/estate? i've heard the 3 door is a 'sportier/stiffer' ride?

Re: First Car?

indeed it does look better, however have you ever had any problems with boot space? as i may need room for weekends away climbing or w.e.

furthermore, do you have much opinion on the panda 100HP?

Re: First Car?

JTd is quite a quick car for a first, have you had insurance quotes for one?

The boot on the 5 door is quite big, and becomes huge when you slide the rear seats forward.

Ive not driven a 100HP, but i do really like the look of them and ive heard very good things about them.

Re: First Car?

yeh, but hopefully the insurance will come down quite alot as il be on my dads insurance on it, and my mum works for an insurance company, so she may be able to 'wangle' something.

JTD is the best Stilo, enjoy. Dont "Front" on the Insurance tho, I'm sure ur Mom will advize... best to have your own insurance and start earning NCD from day one and put Mom or Dad on the policy, not the other way around, thats "Fronting"
