Hi guys,

I have been looking all over the net and this forum about remaping a 1.6 stilo! Trouble is, everytime you put the words "stilo" and "remap" together you get 1.9jtd EVERYTIME:bang:, i have seen the larger stilos and the diesel everywhere but i dont have either.(n)

SO, does anyone know if it can be done and what typical gain i would expect to see?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, some guys on here have had their 1.6's remapped by GSR (I think). Gains were around 10BHP if I recall.

The very mention of remap in this section is a sore point so be prepared for some claims/counterclaims. I'll get some popcorn.

LoL

Sweet, cheers mate.

I dont think i'll be willing to fork out £200+ just for 10BHP though, wouldnt i get more than that from some simple air intake/exhaust mods?

Thanks in advance

I dare say you could but it's more scientific than just plopping in an induction kit. I was at a rolling road day at Chipped UK when I saw more gains on a Stilo when the G&N kit was removed???

It would be nice to have access to a dyno machine and a handful of kits to try but that ain't gonna happen.

You are right though, for 10-20 BHP I can't see the point in paying hundreds of pounds. Get a JTD if you want to see the big gains.

Im only looking for a little extra power, i just find my car to be flat and requiring high(ish) revs at lower speeds.

I would get a JTD but with diesel at its current cost it is already working out more cost effective for my 1.6 petrol than it was for my 1.7diesel astra, so a remapped JTD just doesnt excite me. I dont mind extra fuel cost but just not the sort that my old man has been payin on his mapped JTD vs what it was previously.

Thanks for your help though bozzy, you rock:slayer:

Had mine done as chipped and as you say only a slight increase in performance..

And Boz has enough intelligence to see though all the hype and crap ..the truth is out there..:)

Re-mapping the 1.6 did prove troublesome for a while. I had mine done by Angel Tuning

http://www.angeltuning.co.uk/

and I was very satisfied with it. Didn't create a ball of fire, but then it is only a normally aspirated 1.6! Much smoother though. And Angel visit you and do the re-map at the place of your choice.

Yeah its not all about big BHP gains it is about smoothing of flat spots and using mods to het better torque with them rather than lowering it.

EXACTLY right volxstu(y)

That is what im wanting to acheive, that is my MAIN goal, BHP was just 2nd to my actual want!

I just find the 1.6 very very easy to stall, it just seems to need high revs at take off and HATES it when i go from almost (but not quite) stopped to 2nd gear, im always in first and i feel stupid because people look at me like a noob!:(

Oh well, i guess i might have to look at a bigger engine:mad:

in general, theres no sustitute for CC,

mines a 1.6, roughly running around the 120 mark, gsr fitted, powerflow zorst, sounds nice, thats about it, the gains you will notice for about 2 weeks, then you'll be back to how it felt before,

get a bigger lump,

small engine + high bhp = high maitainence

big engine + low BHP for size = higher mileage and lower maitainence,

i'd rather be putting more money into fuel each weekend than buying parts and being under the bonnet each weekend keeping it running,,,

at most exhaust and induction, dont touch anything else in my opinion.

I know exactly what you mean. Needing to do a quick 3 point turn, reversed as usual but i didn't fully brake and then stuck it in first while she was still slightly rolling back. Gave her some gas and clutch up... Gug Gug! Stalled! So much for the quick turn.

I had a mk5 fiesta 1.6 zetec s before the stilo and i never had any problems like this.

Exactly, older engines used to take much more, i hate not being able to "FEEL" the throttle anymore also! Its so soft (ALL NEW CARS!!) that i just never know where it is unless i listen to the engine! arghhh:bang:

I miss my 4litre jeep:cry:

Thing i miss most about the fiesta was that it was so chuckable and fun to drive. I do love the comfort of the stilo, but she just aint so sporty as standard. Doesn't make me very confident throwing her round corners. Power wise, its similar to the fezzy, but perhaps not as lively.

My insurers won't allow me any engine mods anyway so no remap for me.

Know what ya mean dude!
The stilo is brilliant in comfort and looks gorgeous BUT laks that certain "something", 2 months ago i paid £1500 for a 52plate that has only done 40,000miles, thats 20,000 less than expected and the only thing that was wrong with it was snapped aerial and airbag light which i have fixed both of.

you DO get alot of car for your money, no doubt, BUT i do think the engine is weak!

I've only had my 1.6 for a few months and glad to hear (Just wish it could be fixed) its just common for that model to stall easy and for the controls to be so light.. Does anyone else have a heavy brake peddel??

dont be scared to use the engine though, it can be driven hard, without being thrashed, i regularly take mine up to the 6k-6.5k mark, and have done for the last 30k miles, only once up to temp and its always had good oil ,

they are hardy engines, keep each gear between 4000 and 5500k and youll be suprised,

HEY, when i first got my stilo, i thought JESUS the steering is light, but then someone pointed out that i was being stupid because the city button was on, which i thought was a fuel economy switch WRONG it makes the steering HELLER light. Try pressing that, my steering is fine now!:slayer:(y)

The brake pedal i havent really noticed? BUT im used to driving unimogs and off-road lorries so any brake pedal is light compared to them! lol

if your basically mechanically minded have a look at tthe throttle body clean out in guides,

HERE https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo-guides/83260-cleaning-your-inlet-control-valve.html

from idle how easy is it to make the tick over rise in 100 rpm increments, if it jumps to say 1000-1100 rmp as soom as you touch the throttle, i think the inlet could do with a clean,,,

this is also a cause for a floaty tickover rpm, and stalling at low revs too,

it helped loads on mine when i cleaned it out, it gets an oily build up on the butterfly because of the stupid location of the oil breather pipe,

Brakes seem fine on my 1.6 dynamic. Don't think its heavy at all. My sis used to have an MG ZR. It felt like the brakes didnt work at all compared to the stilo lol. However, she's now upgraded to an 05 BMW 320d... Its only me with the littlest car in the family. Everyone else is riding in mercs and bimmers. Except for my bro... he imported a new shape skyline GT...

Hey Steely,

Cheers mate, i already done that and it definatley made a difference, it was very "hunting" on idle before but now it sits nicely!

HAS ANYONE else had to replace the lower AC pipe?

Apparantley this is a common problem on stilos due to the extreme low-ness of the pipe.
Thing is, eper says £26 but my local dealer wants £46 for the same part number????
