New 18's - need to firm up the ride - Help!!

Hi,

I noticed a lot of you have slammed on some 18's and still mangaged to lower the stilo.

I'm after some firmer spings and i thing the Eibach Pros with a 30mm drop will be best (don't want it to look too slammed)

Will the 30mm drop still leave enough room for the 18's (running 225/40/18 tyres on a 54reg 1.6 active sport by the way). Has anyone had any problems etc??

Cheers guys

Re: New 18's - need to firm up the ride - Help!!

hmm,

will the dampers need upgrading then if i'm to change the springs?

have seen a Eibach sportline kit 30mm drop rear and 45-50mm drop front that looks interesting. Are these any good?? (i'm not exactly going to be racing it round a track not yet anyway!) £120 delivered is that a good price too??

Cheers guys

Can I ask your advice? What do you reckon the Eibach Pro 30mm would be like on the OEM Abarth dampers? Would it be a crappy ride and handling choice? Would it be worse than the OEM springs with the OEM dampers?

would be better, not as soft as crap standard, lower centre of gravity, so less roll..
would slide abit more though..
thats my view of my oem shocks and eibach sportline springs

Coyle,

Have you got a pic of the profile on the 50mm - 35mm drop, just curious as to what it looks like. Also how different are the Abarth OEM Shocks and the ones in my active sport?

Cheers mate

I believe that they're totally different due to the extra weight of the 2.4 engine. The 2.4 shares the dampers of the 1.9 JTD 150 though... (and maybe the 115?)

I don't think they're cross compatible if that's what you're asking...

A lot of folk report good results with just Eibach -30mm springs alone (doesn't necessary apply to other makes mind you ) although most agree they wished they'd uprated the dampers at the same time

Go any lower without upgrading dampers and you'll almost certainly find your handling will be degraded over standard setup on anything other than perfect surfaces. Motorways and good 'A' roads should be fine but but as soon as you hit the windy stuff on a not so perfect surface then you'll be in real trouble. What you need to remember is you also lose the safety factor since if you do hit an unexpected obstacle on a tight curve on an otherwise good surface then you'll very likely lose grip and may not recover. In practice you just tend to drive slower to compensate

I discovered this when I dropped -35mm without bothering to upgrade dampers. The car, now back to standard, is much more assured

I should point out I don't drive on my brakes but for anyone who does then the standard setup is pretty dire.
