Squeeeeeeeekkkk...

Right... I've got a squeek and it's starting to annoy me now

The squeek isn't always there but when it is, it's worst when the car is moving but you can just about hear it when the car is idling at lights for instance. It sounds like it's coming from directly in front of me (driver's side) and not from the dash, which pretty much leaves the engine bay. Now I'm pretty certain that it's nothing to do with the belts which just about leaves the engine mount.

Is it possible for the engine mount to squeek? If it is, what can I do to stop it? Silicone spray?

Re: Squeeeeeeeekkkk...

Another thought, I have heard that the eye level vents can sometimes vibrate on fiats.

Good idea, does your car have aircon greggers?

Maybe a fan is wearing or something?

Re: Squeeeeeeeekkkk...

Well, I'm certain that it's not coming from the interior of the car or the doors and it's not the aux belts as I had them replaced after I thought they might be the culprit...

I get the feeling that it might be the timing side engine mount rubber. The squeek could be the engine support moving slightly in the rubber mount. I need to have a look at the state of the rubber to see if it's in good condition or breaking down... I keep forgetting my torch though

Possibly, but I'd expect them to squeek all the time if it was something like the compressor (when air-con is on) or the alternator. This squeeking tends to be most noticable when the car goes over bumps in the road or when the car is idling at traffic lights. It's definitely more of a movement squeek rather than an a rotational squeek... if you catch my drift

erm no.

does this mean instead of being constant and picking up or dying with revs, its as you move and something is catching?

in that case, brakes? the front has a plate that can warp and catch the disc

Re: Squeeeeeeeekkkk...

all squeaking i've experienced with fiats has always been brake related. seems to come 'as standard' with every one of my cars. haha. i should really invest in some up market brakes. i hate car noises with a passion.

the best thing for you is trial and error. do the things people have suggested, one by one, to try and narrow down the source of the problem. simple process of elimination.
