My stilo now just makes a high pitched noise when in reverse and the warning light shows on the instrument panel any ideas.

Had this, easy one to try. Switch ignition on, put it into reverse. Now stick your ear down to each sensor and check that you can here a clicking noise. If one is not clicking then it's faulty or the wiring has come lose. Check wiring, if still don't get any joy probably have to replace the senosr and they are not cheap.

NOTE: clicking might not be heard on any depending upon your hearing range and the frequency emitted by the sensors (just like those cat scarers, which some can and some can't hear)

Got a similar problem on mine where all I get is a constant high pitch tone when reverse is engaged. However, given that it only occurs when its raining I know that water is the problem. As I'm having a new bumper fitted I bought 2 of the new parking systems that use an adhesive sensor strip on the inside of the bumper. So no nasty holes:cool:. The other set's for the front bumper!!

I have one duff sensor on my rear bumper, and yep ive got a high pitched warning tone too!

Anybody got any old spare sensors knocking about? if so let me know. I will buy it!!

Stilo here is causing problems in the Parking Sensor fault kind.
I've done the above of checking for clicking from each of the sensors and they all do so.

Although if I thump the sensors they do sometimes come back to life. I'm thinking it is the second from left one that once that one is hit they start to work again.

Now i've no idea on how you gain access to inside the bumper, its looking pretty sealed from the bottom and im not looking to be unbolting it from within the boot bay if I can avoid this.

So what can I be looking at, a possible wire or connection inside there that has worked its way loose ?

Can you get at the rear side of the bumper from inside the boot at all?

You have to drop the bumper off to get to the parking snesors. Really easy though. From memory there are 4-5 bolts on the underneath of the bumper. Then you need to unscrew the rear wheel arch covers and the are 2 more bolts eac side. And from inside the boot you need to take the black trim off that goes over the latch that holds the boot closed. Then undo a few bolts there and off it drops.

When you initially put it into reverse is there supposed to be a beep think it's 3 times, its a different sound to the reversing sensor sound?

I'm taking about the sillyspeed transmission it does a du da du da du da du da du da (or something along those lines) when you locate reverse, it;s not the sound of the sensors.

Daft question, are you parked near an object. My sensors go off when there's nothing there and when i'm near a car, wall, person, they go mental.

Nope not at all, it's the same noise as if you shut the engine off not in gear it's exactly the same beeps when i locate reverse, it is not the reversing sensors as they make a different noise that comes from the back of the car, this noise comes from the front and is alot louder.
