Re: bio diesel

my mate got confirmation that he could use it in his clio, so he did, and after 3 or 4 weeks, the car died, and wont start, it cost him close to £1000 to fix. And after 2 weeks the engine siezed, and he got quoted double to fix the 2nd time round. Dunno if this is just úber bad luck, or something to do with the bio diesel.

Re: bio diesel

I was just about to ask the same question - has anyone tried this on a Stilo?

Friend of mine is running 100% veg oil in a merc 250D, and it runs fine! But then it is an older car so hence built better! Was thinking of a 40L diesel, 10L veg oil mix....?

Re: bio diesel

I had the impression that you had to have a car specifically designed for bio diesel as it attacks the fuel hoses and fuel pump on standard diesels?

Re: bio diesel

Re: bio diesel

Put 2l of EN14214 standard bio into 20l yesterday (so 10% ish) and not had any problems in my 150. Am going to get a couple of jerry cans full and experiment to see if/where the limit is for my car.

Having looked at the tech specs the viscosity (which is thought to be the issue for using bio and to a greater extent veg oil in modern high pressure fuel systems) at 40C is identical for bio and mineral diesel, i'm not sure about 15-25C though! Pretty sure there are reports of people using pure bio in JTDs. Certainly the 2.4 unit in the 156. If VAG cars with the PD engines can run it then JTD *should* be ok, no gaurentees though.

I will try get a sample and take it into work to run some tests.

By the way, pure veg oil is a bad idea on high pressure fuel systems like the Mjet (and possibly the JTD) as it WILL blow up your fuel pump. You might be able to run a mix but it honestly isnt worth it. Fine for older diesels though!

Re: bio diesel

Can't wait to see how your car runs on biodiesel! With the spiraling cost of diesel which seems to be going up by 1p everyweek here!

Wonder how much diesel will be by the end of this year

Well if they're right in saying petrol will be 150ppl by Sept, then Diesel will be atleast 175ppl by the end of 08

It's criminalm I hope we have a repeat of 2000's blockades soon.

Place called BioFlo in Rochdale. They dont like answering their phone and looked shut from the front but i found a nice lady round the back in wellies covered in degreaser (don't ask). Actually put in 2.5l but only charged me for 2! It's 99.9p/l usually

Am off to a place in Liverpool next week to pick up a load and do some experiments! I figure i've reached the limit if/when it starts to run rough.

Re: bio diesel

i rang angel tuning yeterday they advised i do a 50/50 mix normal and bio, thing is the garage thats doing it is a 55 mile round trip so wont be saving that much if i do , thing is i thought all disel engines were able to run on this stuff , its not just a mix of chip oil its the real mcoy ,so im a bit lost as to why all disels cant run onit ,what would be the worst case scenario if anything went wrong then.
