Re: Stilo "sucking air" sound

I noticed a sucking sound when i touched the pedal quickly and let go. I have a 1,6 2002 stilo. I haven't noticed that sound before today. It happened when I replaced the spark plugs on the car and noticed the sound when i tested the engine afterwards.

When I drive normally I don't notice any sound or if I accelerate slowly like normal while standing still. It is only when I quickly touch it and let go. When i listened to the sound with someone else accelerating it seemed to come from the right side of the engine. As someone described earlier in this post it might be the butterfly valve: i think it might be where the air sucks in as it opens slightly. Might be that it is dirty and only small areas are open enough at that point and sucks the air through small cracks. I also suspect that it might be a leak in the air intake from the filter. I will try spraying with start spray around the intake manifold, throttlebody, air filter etc to see if the idle spins up as the gas gets into the system, then I know there is a leak somewhere. I'm going to replace the air filter anyway. I'll see if its really dirty and or clogged so that it doesn't let air flow normally.

I have planned to clean the throttlebody soon aswell so I'll take a look if it is dirty. Might be that. Anyway I'll see what it might be.

Found this video that has exactly the same sound mine has now!
And those who started this thread if you are still here. What did it turn out to be?

Re: Stilo "sucking air" sound

Did some checking around and it might be normal sound from the intake as you tap the accelerator. The intake sucks in air as the throttle opens.

Might be that when i replaced the spark plugs the engine runs better now. The old sparkplugs had a gap of 1,5 mm and they should have 0,8. Could be that due to the old ones i wouldn't hear that sound? The car accelerates better now and feels a little perkier.

Any input on this? I didn't fiddle around with anything else when i replaced the plugs. I'll do a quick check tomorrow and see if some hose is loose.
