Stereo Radio ON with Ignition?

When I start the car the Stereo (Standard 6-disc changer) plays with too loud a volume and I have to then turn it down/off?
How do I set it so that it doesn't come on on ignition until I turn it on myself?

re: Stereo Radio ON with Ignition?

You should have a manual for your CD changer; it's all in there; if not, you should just play with the buttons (MENU especially) until you find the right settings...sorry I don't have the manual with me here, and I have a standard CD player unit, not a CD changer (even though I think the settings are similar)

That's right (y) - There are two setting you can play with:

AUTO ON
MAX VOL

Keep the menu button pressed to access 2nd Menu. :)

OK I'm on my way down to you then Mate :p this is an Issue I have been trying to resolve since I have owned the car every time you switch on the darn radio is there with its morning wake up call :bang: I have even resorted to using the mute button I have had a twiddle with the radio but more often that not I end up losing all the stations that have been tuned in :( so I've stopped twiddling and just turn it off on start up :( it is very annoying though and I do wish I could sort this small annoyance out send a full detailed[idiot proof]step by step guide of "HOW TO STOP YOUR RADIO PLAYING ON START UP" to PNL C/O www.fiatforum.com :)

How To Stop Your Radio Playing On Start Up

Here you go then Phil. (y)

  1. Keep MENU button pressed until "RDS CLOCK" is displayed.
  2. Now each press of the MENU button will choose a different option.
  3. Keep pressing until you come to "AUTO ON"
  4. Use the Track Change button to change to "OFF"
  5. Done!

The only drawback to this setting is that every time to turn the radio ON then it stays ON until you turn it OFF. If you like listening to the radio then you'll most likely end up changing back to "AUTO ON" (and OFF).

Whilst going through the selections above you'll also see "MAX VOL" (sets maximum volume every time you start the car). In many respects this is actually more useful. Use the volume control to adjust this rather than the track change arrows.

Loads of other stuff you can change as well using the same technique. :)

Anyone know how to stop the Connect Nav+ unit from doing the same, it's really annoying, gave myself a fright the other day when I jumped into the car and "woof" the radio came on, just like the fright you get during a horror movie.

Don't you just hate it when your children do that to you :(

I've been impressed with mine too (standard 6 speaker) and gather they're at their best in a 5 Door :woot: Turn the treble up a bit and the stereo effect is quite superb (y)

First problem with 'new' Stilo - Radio ON / OFF

Rather than go to the dealership to get fobbed off, like being told the cd/radio was definitely Blaupunkt when it's a Visteon with Blaupunkt connectors, thought I ask the experts (you lot) my first niggling problem. Hopefully one of you will have an answer to save a trip to the dealership.

On turning the key in the ignition I would normally expect the cd/radio to come on but it does not. Each time I have to manually switch it on. On reaching my destination and removing the key from the ignition I have to manually switch off the cd/radio. Ok this is not too much hardship... but I am guaranteed to forget one day.

Checked the radio manual and also the My Car settings and can find nothing in there ... any ideas

re: First problem with 'new' Stilo - Radio ON / OFF

Cant really remember with the standard radio, but i think mine used to have to be turned on/off manually. I'm pretty sure they dont turn on/off automatically when you turn the car on or off.

Someone will no doubt be able to confirm that for you though. (y)

Having problems with my alpine head uint at the mo, it's got a mind of it's own, and does what it wants!!

re: First problem with 'new' Stilo - Radio ON / OFF

If you are talking about the standard radio you can switch between auto and manual power off. I think it's under MENU or second level of MENU.

re: First problem with 'new' Stilo - Radio ON / OFF

Thanks to Argonaght I no longer have the radio on when I turn the ignition key :worship: he told me how to reprogram it so I can turn it on when I wont it on and not when IT want to be on with you fiddling you my have done this to it as far as staying on though when you turn the engine off I'm sure the radio will turn its self off after 20 mins read the book I'm sure you wil see it in there (y)

re: First problem with 'new' Stilo - Radio ON / OFF

I think you have to hold the menu key down for a few seconds
to get the on/off option.

re: First problem with 'new' Stilo - Radio ON / OFF

Yes, if you hit MENU you get one menu, but if you hold it down you get a second level and power is about the third or fourth item.

I successfully changed the settings for mine by following the instructions - must be easy.

its in the menu options somewhere. keep pressing the menu button.... if you dont see anything that vaugely resembles "auto..." then press and hold the menu button to get to the other menu. it's in one of those somewhere!

1.Hold the menu button

2.Press the menu button continously until auto switch is displayed.

3.Using the rewind/fast forward keys select either on or off then turn the ignition on or off.

this should then either turn the stereo on/off using the ignition or you will have to do it manually.

Coyle as for aftermarket stereos I think its to do with the wiring you will normally have to make sure it is wired correctly and then it will also work in the same way. Your local auto electrician will sort this out for you.

This has been done to death - don't you read previous posts

The standard unit communicate via CAN to the rest of the car which means you haven't a hope in hell of getting many of these features to work with an after market unit. It's the price you pay when going after market and personally I think the standard unit is pretty good, sound wise, although a speaker upgrade is probably a good move :)
