OBD II Cable

Anyone seen any cables anywhere to connect the stilo to a laptop preferably cheap?

Re: OBD II Cable

Try http://www.talktomycar.co.uk/
Check what kind of ports you have on your laptop first though ie serial female/male / usb?

Do a search on here first though if you plan to use it on a JTD as earlier ones aren't EOBD2 compliant

Re: OBD II Cable

ebay is usually the cheapest. U380 or U480 scanners seem to work well on stilo's

The poster wanted to use his laptop

Anyway - have you used these code readers with your 2002 Stilo because I might get one as nothing else seems to work?

Is the U480 (CAN bus) model likely to be more compatible than the U380?

Re: OBD II Cable

Read your other thread on trying to link to a computer have you given up on this then? I suppose all you really need to do is read any error codes and reset them, just using it with a laptop seems so much cooler

Was that question directed at me? I can not get anything to work on my 2003 JTD MW. I have read posts that say these scanners work on them though. I was thinking of getting one. No, a Can bus scanner will not make any difference on a stilo as this only accesses the engine fault log and the engine diagnostics is not on the can bus in a Stilo. It might be useful for diags on other cars though.

I'd much prefer to use a laptop but it's a case of getting desperate.

I still think there's something odd here as whilst I can't talk to the ECU (strictly speaking I can but it refuses to initialize so you don't get very far ) the car has recently been mapped successfully via the OBDII interface. The guy even said I was lucky I had a fast ECU which meant the remap took only minutes instead of nearly an hour. Clearly some interfaces, apart from just Examiner, can talk to it OK

I am sure it should work, but just has a minor timing / signal glitch / something is not exactly to the OBD standard that causes them to not work.

Thanks for the tip From what you say, getting the U480 is a waste of time then (apart from being able to use on other cars perhaps).

I might try one (I'll make sure I'm offered a 7 day return )

Re: OBD II Cable

Thanks to Steve148 i have the services of his elm323. he has successfully connected this to his 2004 stilo jtd with correct readings. i am now trying to produce the same results. sounds like ISO9141-2 is the protocol of choice.

so far it wont give me what i want from my 2005 stilo jtd but im not giving up just yet.

It is 2002 and early 2003 JTD's that give problems. The later ones, like yours should work fine on the ELM interface.

So have you connected with absolutely identical set-up (same laptop, interface and software) ?

Re: OBD II Cable

not the same laptop no but same software and interface (elm323). i think his laptop is xp and mine is vista but that is the only difference. i have checked though and the driver states it is compatable with vista.

Make sure you run the software in XP compatible mode and as administrator. Right click on the launch icon and set these properties. Otherwise software like this tends not to work on Vista.
