My girlfriend's Stilo had "engine fault" appear on screen about 100 yards from home. I worried at first that it might have been the coolant problem (that keeps getting low-it's either a headgasket or a simple leak) maybe it boiled dry, overheated and destroyed itself, but when I went to check it I found the water no lower than minimum and the temp fine.

So the car is due to go back to the garage under the 3 month warantee tomorrow for the coolant problem, which is a bit of luck, but how serious is the engine fault likely to be, and will it be safe to make the 40 minute drive to the garage tomorrow while it's still saying that on screen?

May not be ok to drive it to garage, could be sending unburtn fuel into the cat which can make it more expensive, but more than likely it'll be ok.

If you have AA/rac then I'd call them out.

What engine is it?

Well for safety we called out the RAC this morning. The guy reckoned it's just one of the coils gone, it was running lumpy.
I'm just glad we bought the car with a warrantee (The guy is probably regretting selling it with a warrantee!)
He was already due to have it back to replace a cracked aircon pipe today, now he's doing that replacing a coil, and finding our coolant leak/headgasket problem!

my prestigio did this the week before i sold it.

upon the examiner report, it was apparantly the spark plugs causing incorrect emission reports. these were all replaced.

happened again a week later, was warned of the airflow meter could be a cause?

or maybe even the fact the engine oil was low?

??????????

be very wary of the examiner machine! (and cost).

PS - must be glad you're not the one paying!!!!!

Hi,
Once one coil goes they then in turn all go, did same to me after the second went replaced the lot with help and advice from this forum. Its an easy job to do if your warranty runs out.
