is it usb/serial/bluetooth? for serial, you dont need a driver, for USB, you need a USB-Serial bridge driver... it depends on who made your interface as to which USB IC they used and hence the bridge driver required.... do you have a pic? i may still have the driver for the Prolific USB-Serial kicking around somewhere.

sorted the driver problem but now the scantool is saying
"interface not found" when i press connect. any ideas?
thanks in advance

yeah, im pluggin into the 16 pin above the fuse box inside the car.ive tried it with inition on,off and running sill the same thing no interface
ive used :elm scantool, autotap.but there all sayin the same thing:bang::bang::bang:
HELP!!!

As it's a usb does it recognise it when you plug it in or does nothing happen?
Is the 16 pin connector pushed fully on to the car socket as it needs a firm push the first time?
Are you sure you have the correct usb driver installed?

ive uninstalled jus incase somthing was wrong, re installed and...nothing
still the same anymore advice before i send it back for a refund?

Interface not found can often be a port problem. Use the diagnostic software to search for the right port, or go into Windows Device Manager, find the USB interface and see if it tells you which port is assigned to it. If all else fails, the diagnostic software will have an Options or Settings page, just try all the different ports till you hit it. Remember, computer has to be on, car ignition has to be on.

You don't say what you've done or whether you're XP SP1 or 2

You need to make sure it installs the driver which you download from the above website and not let it search for what it thinks is best

Almost certainly it'll be a usb driver problem or your own laptop configuration problem
You may need to change the com port Number for the usb

Have a look here to see how to install the driver

If all else fails get the guys to send you another install cd
