More advice required.

I've been quoted by my local (Liverpool area) Fiat dealership that it is £60ish to have a headlight bulb replaced (as they have to take part of the bumper off).

Does anyone know of any places where I can get it done cheaper or even how I would do it myself (if it not to difficult)?

Thanks

Toejam

Bozzy,
Thanks for the link.
The first picture made me panic slightly although a few of the other posts mention it not being too bad to do.
I don't suppose you know how I can find the link to the guide which everyone was referrign to in that thread.
I have a passenger headlight and a driver fog light that need replacing and I've been told that it's going to codst me £100+.

Thanks

Having just read your other post mentioning the same dealer i guess, i'd leave them well alone, they sound like right con artists, or are too busy so giving over inflated prices to loose work.
Do it yourself but pick a good day for weather and take your time so you don't break anything.
i found the nearside easier to do by removing the wheel arch liner.

£60 for one, was it leaders fiat by any chance (bootle), that's just taking the mikey.

Thanks to the guide and other peoples messages i managed to do both mine this morning(y) thanks to everyone:).

I thought the guide was a bit drastic in that it says to remove the bumper then the head light.

Driver side, unscrew washer bottle and move it back a bit, unscrew little black box on inner wing and move it out the way, remove the cover clip, they just get in the way and hey presto you will have enough room to move around.

Passenger side (now the fun begins), remove battery cover, unscrew wheel arch lining (three screews) you should be able to pull it out enough to get your hands in there and see waht you are doing, again, remove the clip holding on the cover and don't forget to disconnect the wiring going to headlamps, that just gets in the way too, it has a grey clip on it which you push to one side and pull the plug off(y).

I got my n/s headlamp replaced, bulb included, for £10 at my local garage.
Worth a try: Mapledale Road, just off Allerton Road L18. :)

Amazingly, Fiat themselves (Glyn Hopkins in Bishop's Stortford) changed my n/s dipped beam (H7) the other day for free! I obviously had to pay for the bulb (£10) but they fitted it in 30mins and waived any charge for the actual fitting... was impressed but I think they wanted me to become a regular customer for servicing and repairs... to be fair, it's not unlikely given the problems I'm having with the car

The bloke who fitted it said it was a pig of a job... I almost felt sorry for him... almost :D

take off the wheel and wheelarch liner(its only 6 or 7 screws)get you head in should give you a good view of the bulbs.be careful as holding clips on bulbs come loose once opened.
