Hello All

Did a search and surprisingly didnt find anything on this so here goes!

Recently my brakes have begun to squeek, it doesnt happen under hard breaking but normally when your slowing up arriving at a red light etc... So in between gentle and hard breaking.

Could it be due to the cold weather recently or is it something more serious like the pads going?

Thanks for your help! (y)

Dry air really brings on the squealing brakes if they're going to whereas wet conditons often clears away the dust.

Unless your pads are down to the metal and grinding, it's more often a resonance thing that you can't do much about apart from sticking in new pads. Original pads seem prone to it. That did it for me, mine squealed enough to make pedestrians stop and look and i changed them long before they were even 1/2 worn; couldn't stand the racket.

All peace and quiet now for the last few years

You surprise me there Decks as my original OEM pads were completely quiet.

I've only had problems since changing to GreenStuff and believe me I've tried everything. Mind you, it is only very minor under light breaking just before coming to a stop. Still annoying though

Mine only do it in reverse! when im going realy slowly, and touching on the breaks.it is such a pain!!
Its only the rear breaks aswell. fiat said it is dust in the brakes, so counts as wear and tear. therefore not covered by warranty. Even though it was brand new car! damn you fiat!! :p

Well resonance is all a bit musical and difficult to predict. You and I have different sized discs and different pads, that might make a difference. I swopped mine for similar pads and the music stopped:)

Mintex squeelys fitted! squeels like mad when normal braking, not under hard or gentle braking, just turn up the stevie Wonder!! cures it, tried copper slip and shims to no avail!

oh well, gets you noticed!

^ as above, upgraded to mintex pads last service and they are really bad for squealing as car comes to a halt. changed to drilled discs too - maybe this has effect??

oems were far quiter under harsh braking, even considering the MOT-failable warpage on the discs.......

My front brakes are the same had them checked out and they were in good condition even went through a mot they do turn heads for the wrong reason, are oems Fiats own brake pad????? thinking on changing them getting a bit p*** off with all the constant squeeking!!!!

:DStick some new OE pads in. That sort it. Once got some cheap mintex for about £14. Squealled like a pig. Swapped em for OE. Squeaks gone. Only cost £7 more, it was well worth the extra. Easy to fit as well. just 1 bolt to release and thier out.(y)

yeah agree, mintex are very good at stopping the car but pain in the aerosol for noise

;)Nah give these guys a bell. Far cheaper than anywhere else they should post em to you aswell. They deal in genuine FIAT parts and are based in Bradford. They are always worth checking. Front pads should be about £21 if you ask for OE parts. GGB 01274733727;);):slayer:

Just to add to this post as i was meaning to ask the same question....my breaks sqeak really badly when breaking at lower speeds or toughing lightly on the breaks....sometimes it is very loud and as mentioned before can make pedestrians look! So you are saying if i change the pads back to genuine fiat ones (is that was what OEM means?) then the squeaking should hopefully go? I'm having my break fluid changed next month, i'm wondering whether to get the mechanic to change the pads at the same time?

I had my brakes changed at quickfit and they squeaked when drivin slowly on my 1.2 stilo and they swapped them 3 times and they still would squeak, the fitter said that because the pads had to much metal in them or something. So i think if you went with fiat you would be fine.

I have had both my front and back brakes done in the last year and although there is no way they are worn I am getting the same sqeeking noise when slowing down. I sound like a double decker bus as it pulls up. Apart from that the car is running fine.
