General Fiat Stilo Abarth

Had the pleasure of driving a 02 Abarth at weekend as im currently selling my coop, I really was impressed with the spec, ride and overall package, now I am 100% sure I will purchase one once I sell my car. Have read loads of posts, most bad however after owning a Fiat Coupe for 2 years I know how expensive general fiat runnng can be.:D

You will love it... trust me mines cost me a bit to keep going.. but fingers crossed she is serving me good. Plus that certain note the engine makes as it screams up the revs.. pure pleasure. (y)

hey we go just been out in the little one and posted a quick vid on you tube.. (y)

ive got tonnes of footage from this evening will take me a little while to go through. its not the best angle either as i just taped the camcorder to the seat.

I have to say that my Abarth is an absolute gem. Loads of gadgets - and I agree, you have to watch you aren't spending time playing with them when you are driving - a really high spec and it is very, very fast for a car you can afford to get insured. Mine (okay, ours...) has 44K, 03 reg and was £1400 with a FFSH and some very minor bodywork defects. It puts a smile on my face and gets 30mpg on a run across hills and dales, but as little as 23mpg on short runs. I hope to see some great figures on a motorway run. The panoramic sun roof is going to be brilliant in the summer and the hifi is excellent. Heated leather seats too. The selespeed is great, although I wouldn't like to pay for a repair if it was ever to need one. The big engine size means that this car has had an easy life, and it feels almost new. Love it. :) :D :D

Know where you're coming from there :)

When I bought one at three years old, my opinions were mixed as I wasn't sure it held up well against an immaculate Alfa 164 V6 that cost about one-third the price. But 164s are all old now and I've recently managed to buy a Stilo Abarth for 'buttons' (about £2000 in your money) which makes it a highly practical buy for me. Feels like the right car, I'm going to enjoy improving it as there is room for improvement (mine needs a new clutch, set of tyres, wheels repainted, sound system update/upgrade, and I think some suspension mods to make it a little more planted (as an Abarth should have been) while still retaining a comfy, big-car feel. Compared to the 500, the Stilo is like a limousine and I'm quite happy to forgo my real limousine (Alfa 166, currently advertised for sale). If you think the Stilo is expensive to run, try a 166...! ;)

The fun thing about my Stilo is that I have that low-mileage baseline to compare against - the one I owned before had only done about 20,000km - my current one is 160,000km (100,000 miles) and while the body is still tight, suspension could definitely benefit from replacement parts. Looks a lot simpler to work on than my last project car (Alfa 156). Might be a little less 'refined' (handling-wise) but at least it will go in a straight line, unlike the wayward geometry of my 156 which was, in some ways, too complex for its own good. The car also lacked the practicality of a hatchback and the structure was a generation older in terms of rigidity. The Stilo body is built just like a Golf :)
