Door wont open

As the title says, my drivers door wont open, and its a right pain using the passenger door to get in, and no doubt the missus is going to scratch all the dash and connect+ screen with her heels whilst getting in.....................................So!!!

How do i get it open? the central locking system is working in the door, and the handle is unlocking the lock from the inside, but the door wont open. It seems as if the deadlock is stuck on. I use the deadlock feature everytime i lock the car, so its not like the deadlock is stiff, or seized. But thats what it seems to be.

I dont want to be told that i have to remove the door card, coz thats impossible with the door shut. So i need other solutions. such as is there a way to deactivate the deadlock with the key in the barrel?

I look forward to your replies, that tell me that i dont need to remove the door card

Re: Door wont open

It's not impossible to remove the door card with the door shut, difficult yes, but it's the only way to gain access to the lock. Otherwise all you can do is play and pray with the remote and door lock key.

Deadlocks are a pretty daft feature as a pane of glass won't stop a determined thief gaining access to the inside of your car. All I've ever heard of deadlocks is the owner themselves being locked out of their own car. Deadlocks were discontinued on later models I believe. I have them but have never used them for that reason. I wish you luck

Re: Door wont open

Ive had this exact problem, when my Stilo went in for its suspension recall work the guys at the Fiat garage said it was the central locking motor in the door that had gone kaput. They quoted some silly price to sort it so took it to my independant garage and they sorted it. Pretty sure the parts + labour were well under £100!

Take it to a garage and ask them to check the motor, im pretty sure that will be it!

Re: Door wont open

But i can hear the motor working, unless the deadlock has its own motor? a few weeks back when the car was frozen i had the same problem, but when the car warmed up, the door would open again.

I need all the luck i can get, lol

Re: Door wont open

I'd leave it while until there's fair change in temperature. You never know it might suddenly clear. (and just hope the other door doesn't jam )

I only use mine at high risk locations like when I'm going for a hike and the car's parked on the moors.

Re: Door wont open

Is there any way of knowing if you have deadlocks just by looking?

Re: Door wont open

The deadlock is a separate motor to the normal lock/release motor. It sounds as if the deadlock is just jammed if the normal door catch is working as that shows the door node is receiving signals

Door catch is N50 D/L is the deadlock
Door node is M66
Interior door lock switch is H44

Just keep playing with the remote or key in the door and maybe lean on the door near the catch
Look like you're breaking in, get arrested, spend a night in the cells, protest your innocence, meet a nice chap called Vincent, wish deadlocks were never invented

Assuming you have them (many early Stilo's did) then:

a double click of the lock button should produce 3 confirmation flashes from indicators to indicate the car is deadlocked.

You can normally also hear the bolts slide into place.

Re: Door wont open

Any tips on how a dealer might go about over riding the deadlocks?

Software and examiner based over ride, or big hammer style overide?

Re: Door wont open

Ok so i got the door open, i just played with the locks, and both internal and external handles, and then oila! it opened. Its worked perfect ever since. I think the missus buggered it up! and then hid the truth from me. But its working no. Champion!
