Exclamation Abarth gearbox need advice

Well i knew it had to cause problems at some time and it has. Lately i have notice when away from my house and i slow down for the speedramps it has been going into neutral then today i,m sitting waiting to get it washed and the guy waves me forward and it would not change to 1st gear (so after a few hits up still nothing) so i turned the engine of for few secs then on again and it went into 1st.
Then tonight driving home i came to a junction and again went into neutral (with loads of cars behind me) and it took a while to get it into 1st
I have noticed lately when i open the drivers door the whiny noise is not as long or as load can anyone help before i book it in to the main STEALERS cheers.

Actuator fault maybe? I had that go on mine, left me stranded on a roundabout in rush-hour

Re: Abarth gearbox need advice

Do you think that if the gearbox fluid is low that could cause probs to?

Re: Abarth gearbox need advice

well i hopefully getting car back tomorrow after 3 weeks, fiat dealer had it for few days said they replaced relays and it seemed to be working ok. had it back a hour and it happened again towed it back in and i said to them i have noticed the buzzing noise when i open the drivers door not as loud and long (pump) and finally after another 1 1/2 weeks they said thats what they reckoned the problem was and they have now replaced it (my pocket £580 lighter tomorrow) so much for their great dianostic machines at main dealers, i,m just hoping that its defo the problem as not just guessing because of what i said

Re: Abarth gearbox need advice

that went on mine (selespeed pump) about £200 for labour and just under £200 for parts, but fiat paid for the parts for me

I had prior warning (gearbox warning) a few weeks before, my fault really as I didn't get it checked out straight away.

Re: Abarth gearbox need advice

I have had a few "gearbox failure" then "return slowly to dealer" messages lately (about one a week) but the car drives fine and changes gear as normal. Everytime I switch on in the morning I am expecting a message but it says that the check is O.K. So I am confused is it just a technical glitch or is it warning that something is about to go really wrong? Help please

Re: Abarth gearbox need advice

I'd get the fault code read anyway just to be sure, you don't want to be stranded!

may be nothing but it may lead to something that could go wrong.

I think i'm right in saying that it's only FIAT dealers that can read the fault code as well as selespeed failure messages don't appear on most diagnostic software.

Re: Abarth gearbox need advice

yep but you need a good technician who is able to make good use of examiner recorder function, its my prefered method & good for catching thoe pesky selespeed potentiometers.

Re: Abarth gearbox need advice

well got the car back and the gear change seems quicker & more smoother so hopefully the problem totally resolved but will keep you informed if anything happens
